Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

HP Pavilion DV1000 touchpad and keyboard freezes

My touchpad & keyboard freezes but the laptop does not and can be operated from USB mouse & keyboard. Actually my tag says it is a DV1550se but HP reports it as an DV1411se. It freezes within minutes of booting up so it is not an overheating problem. There have been a lot of reported problems like this but no clear solutions. I have eliminated most potential problem sources. I have updated all drivers. There is no virus. I have replaced the keyboard, touchpad & cables but the problem persists. I have isolated it to the touchpad by disconnecting the touchpad cable internally. Running w/o the touchpad, there is no problem and the keyboard works fine with no freezing. It would seem the only source left is either the motherboard or processor which will be difficult and expensive to replace. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Oh I forgot. I reformatted the HDD and reloaded Windows XP with all updates also.

One more thing. I tried different memory sticks also.

This is really strange. I changed the touchpad properties to turn off tapping and palm rest. With these off the touchpad takes longer to freeze. However I then noticed that if I go to the control panel, the mouse option, the touchpad tab and then just exit the control panel the touchpad is unfrozen for awhile. I don't even have to change anything in the control panel. Of course once the touchpad is frozen I am only able to do the above with my USB mouse which works all the time.

Stranger still. I have installed an Alps touchpad driver and it seems to work ie not freeze. However, the sensitivity/movement is not good. If I move my finger fast it works fine but if I move my finger slow it doesn't move. If this continues to not freeze I guess this proves it is the Synaptics driver.

Oh ****! I solved the movement problem with another Alps driver but now the touchpad freezes again so I am not sure if the problem was the synaptics driver after all. It looks like it must be the motherboard.

This problem is driving me crazy, after 10 mins my cursor freezes and I have to reboot to get the touchpad moving again. Just before it freezes the touch pad goes into zoom mode. So many people are having problems with this, it would have been a novel idea for HP to fix this problem before they started selling the product. I have downloaded new drivers and other fixes reported on the web, the only thing I haven't tried is taking the sleekbook back to the seller and shoving it up his .......

Sometimes its a hardware driver software and OS driver software conflict on touchpad. if after OS installation the touchpad is already detected, no need to install the touchpad driver. try disabling the touchpad driver you installed. hope this helps

HP Pavilion dm4-1160us 14" Laptop, cursor is not

Try to restart your machine first see if that fixes the problem. If that doesn't work, then go Here.

Pick your windows version (32-bit or 64-bit) Then under "Keyboard, Mouse and Input devices" look for
Synaptics TouchPad Driver

You might want to borrow a external Mouse (USB) for easier navigation.
