Did the bryant inhome test. everything works but the outside unit it clicks and humms . the fan won`t turn

Fan just trys to come on but humms

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

The click, is it faint, such as a relay energizing?

It sounds like the fan motor start capacitor is bad (if it has one) -- I can't find any schematics for this unit -- do you know where to find one on-line?

The humming may be the compressor running. The fan on top of your A/C outside tower is the condenser cooling fan. If the fan motor will start when you give the fan blades a push, then the start capacitor is bad & needs replacing. If the motor won't start when you give the blades a push, the start windings on the fan motor are burned out, and the motor needs to be replaced. Don't let your compressor run without the cooling fan, or you'll likely have to replace the compressor too.

I have a Bryant Model 593C central air - 6 years old - the fan on the outside unit won't run. I checked the breaker and it is fine.

Hello, this could be either a bad capacitor or bad fan motor. If the fan starts by giving it a push then replace the capacitor, if it does not start the motor needs to be replaced.

We have a 6 year old air conditioner Byrant 591B. The outside unit is not working it make a slight hum when the thermostat is set to cool, but the fan does not run. The furnace is working fine

You picked the wrong picture...lol. You have a split system and that humm you hear comes from the contactor. That means the thermostat is asking the compressor which is outside to come on. If you hear the humm but nothing is working, Check the breaker and then replace the fuses in your fuse box by the condensing unit, or the outside unit if the breakers are OK. It should have a disconnect between 3 to 10 feet of the unit depending on your codes and city requirements. No matter what, if you stand at your unit and look at the conduit, it will lead to your electrical disconnect. It could be a sub-breaker or fuses. It is usually fuses because a breaker could take up to 6 sin waves to respond as where a fuse could take only 2 sin waves. Replace both fuses. As time goes on, fuses become warn from constant load changes and heat and sooner a latter, they just wear out like any other component. Change the fuses and fire your unit back up. If it pops the new breakers, you have other issues and it's time to call an HVAC guys.

THE FAN IN THE OUTSIDE UNIT IS NOT WORKING. INSIDE UNIT RUNS BUT NO COOL AIR IS COMING OUT OF VENTS. IS THERE A REST BUTTON OLN THE OUTSIDE UNIT?

either the fan has went out or the capisitor for the fan is bad and needs to be replaced.if you have run the outside unit very long without the fan turning you might be replacing the compressor as well as the fan or capisitor.if the fan isnt pulling air through the cond coil outside, the compressor gets very hot very fast, and it locks down(burns up). get it looked at asap before it cost more because of other broken parts caused by the fan not working.

Bryant central air unit fan doesn't stop.

This is a condenser fan and as long as the A/c unit is in cool mode, this fan will run. The only time it should shut off is when temperature setting is satified and the unit shuts off.
