The hi limit must be tripped. Open the door and find a swich that has a really small red button on it and push it in. If it clicks, it was tripped. If not, with the door open bend way down and look up whare the top of the door is when closed. You will find a small black fuse holder. Push up as you turn, and pull out. Check to see if the fuse is blown, if it is replace with the SAME SIZE & RATING. DO NOT USE TIN FOIL.

remove connections from hi-limit switch, and put an ohm-meter across connections then heat it with a match or heat source of that temp range, heat the face and watch your meter it will show open when hi limit reaches cutoff limit/if you need exact cutout temp, you will need to have one of those digital read-out temp gun

Check sum failure is an error on the configuration of the computer board. You have to reset the computer board to factory setting to get rid of this error (if check sum failure appears every now and then on the display). Make sure that you have the list of your cooking parameters before you reset the board to factory setting. Any settings made prior to a factory reset will be lost. Details on how to reset the board to factory setting can be downloaded at pitco website on www.middleby.com.

That is strange....Have you tried to clean out your gas lines? Sometimes, especially in LP fryers, they get stuff up inside the gas lines, which have to be cleaned out in order for them to work correctly...I sure sounds like a gas problem, with you saying it "backfires". Another to check, would be is this a natural gas fryer, hooked up to LP, or vice versa? Either way it wouldn't work properly, and could cause that.... You don't have a leak around your fry pot area, do you? That catches fire sometimes, where the oil leaks out under the pot. You can also check your jets, as they get clogged up too. We use a air compressor to blow them out, but you can use a small brush or a skewer to clean them out as well. Our gas service tech, Ray is off Monday, but he will be back in on Tuesday, so if you need further help, please call and speak with him Tuesday.
Our toll free number is 888-542-5959. We are open 8:30 to 5:30 M-F.
I hope this helps, but if not, call Ray and he can probably help you further.
