Question about Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router
I Have a Linksys BEFSR41 router and when I connect it all up, it won't connect to the internet. But when I unplug it and go straight computer to modem internet works. It's weird.
just about adding a few lines for comfort of execution after you have tried all the above connect the pc to the port numbered 4 or 3 and check if it connects to the internet if it connects then every thing is working fine
but if it doesn't work yet then try connecting the pc to port numbered 1 if it works now then we have to implore a work around here to have your other pc to be connected to the router
connect the cable from the modem to port numbered 1 instead of the port labled 'INTERNET'
now check see if the internet is available in ports 2,3,4 by connect the PC to the ports succesively
hope this helps

Here are a couple of things to try. You're probably already done this a million times but I'll walk through the connections just in case. Hopefully these instructions will work with the Linksys router model you have.
Power the router up by plugging in the power supply. Plug in an Ethernet cable from your broadband modem to the port in the back of the router labeled "internet". Plug in another Ethernet cable from your computer to any one of the four numbered ports in the back of the router. Hit the reset button on the back of the router. You may need a sharp object like a pen or pencil to poke it. Reboot your computer. Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, and type in http:192.168.1.1. A window should pop up asking for a user name and a password. Don't enter a user name and type admin for the password. Hit ok. The router setup screen should come up. Click on the administration tab. Then click on the factory defaults sub-tab. The sub-tabs are in blue just below the normal tabs. Hit yes to restore factory defaults. Now see if you can connect to the internet through the router.
