Hoover Floormate wheel assembly

The wheel assembly on my Hoover Floormate broke so I ordered the replacement part, only I can't get it in place.  Is there some sort of trick to getting the darn thing to fit how it's supposed to?  With the machine face up, I can get the bottom part or the top part in place, but once I get either part in place I can't get the other to fit.  There is a piece at the top that is supposed to fit into what looks like a hoop, which is part of the solution wetting mechanism, but nothing bends or moves in order to get the piece in place.

In replacing the front wheel assembly, I incorporated a couple of hints from here - first, taking the gray top off by releasing the 6 tabs - 2 front - 2 back - and one on each side - carefully. Then stand the machine up - you need to remove two screws on each side, by the rear wheels and pull those black pieces up some so you have room on the under side for the wheel assembly round things that hold the assembly in place. Turn the machine over and work the round tabs on the assembly in the holders - you need to work it, putting the longest side in first. After getting that in place, carefully - carefully - align the screw thing in the front to where it is suppose to go and carefully work it in place by pushing the screw head carefully through the hole on the arm where it belongs. Be careful not to break anything! After your assembly is in place - stand the machine up and get those black holders along side of the rear wheels back in place and screw them in - 2 screws each. Then carefully snap the gray piece back in place and you are good to go. I don't have a parts list to know exactly what all the names are for the parts, but I hope you get the jest of it. I tried not to use words like do-ma-hicky and thing-a-ma-jig (I'm a woman) haha

You must remove the top gray piece it has six tabs 2 in front, two in back and 2 on sides where the foot pedals are. Be very careful not to break them. Then you cn remove screwsa nd install the piece.

After reading all your comments, as I had the same problem with the front wheels, I carefully spent 2 days (no....not all at the same time) to carefully remove the gray top housing as I would rather take the time to understand WHY. Having said that...there are an additional to locating tabs in the front that should actully be PUSHED out once the other 6 have been released in order to remove the gray top.
Front wheels can be replaced from the bottom without removing anything. Simply remove the plastic pin (carefully ...that's the only mechanical connection there is to the wheel assembly) with the aid of needle nose pliers and a screwdriver for torque......re-insert the front wheel assembly (either left to right or right to left....goes in easily) and simply re-attach the plastic pin.
Re-attaching the plastic pin can be tricky and may require some dextarity but, ....what I have found is that if you take a 2.5 mm allen wrench (there is an allen slot in the back of the pin) shorten the short side by about half you can position the pin into place and with minimal pressure get it locked into position.
Sounds complicated but if you read thru this proceedure again it's really quite simple.
Been a mechanic all my life (of sorts) used to invent tools when nobody made what I needed. Just sayin............

Reading with interest the proceedures others went thru I found several steps un-needed.

How to fix clog on hoover floormate fh40010?

I was having the same issue with my NEW just out of box Hoover FH40010. First run on the floor was great then the water/cleaner stopped dispensing!!! I found that when is assembled it out of the box I did not have the handle "plugged-in" properly!! I reattached it to where there is NO gap in the handle when pushed firmly into place and locked in the base. WATER SOLUTION NOW WORKS PERFECTLY!!!

Vacuum not releasing liquid for floorr wash

There are two reasons this might occur. First is that the wheel assembly is broken. Turn the machine over and check for breakage at the rear edge where the wheel carriage attaches to the housing. If it is broken, water will not be released, and the wheel assembly must be replaced. The soap tank on this model was also prone to problems. Sometimes it would fail to release fluid for unknown reasons, and had to be replaced.

Water won't come out

There are two common reasons for this. First is that you have a broken attaching lug on the wheel assembly. Look at the bottom of the machine and check for breakage at the rear of the wheel assembly where it attaches to the base. Less commonly, the upper tank will fail on these units and will require replacement.

Floormate does not disperse wet cleaning solution on the floor. brushes and vacuum pickup all work

First check to see that the wheel assembly is not broken. The assembly must move correctly to allow the fluid to be dispensed. Check for breakage at the rear of the wheel assembly where it attaches to the base. If this is not the problem, you may have a defective soap tank.

My son dropped the Hoover Floormate hard floor cleaner and a black piece with a spring came out. I dont know where it goes, and now the handle wont stay up.

From your description you have an issue with the pedal release in the base. this model is the original series, and I would not put too much money in the repair. not an easy cover to remove. check the base wheel assembly. the black pivot points break on these when dropped. If it is broke the part itself cost about $18. Cosider the overall performance and other repair items to determine worthwhile repair.

The floorplate broke off my Floormate H3000

I'm assuming that the floor plate your referring to is the wheel assy. This is a common problem on the H3000 series. You will have to remove the two pivot brngs on either side of the handle where it pivots on the base. Once removed, flip the machine over and you will have the necessary clearance to insall the new wheel assy. The difficult part will be attaching the front arm assy using little plastic pin provided. You can use a small pair of needle nose pliers to guide the pin into place and then use a larger pair of needle nose to squeeze GENTLY to push the pin into place. Once done, re-install the pivot brngs and your done.
