Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a pair of KEF 104.2 Reference Series speakers that were hooked up with my Rotel amp with another set of cheap speakers for the family room. Over the last several years we mainly listened to the cheap speakers in the family room. Now the KEFs are not working. They are playing softly out of the bottom port but there doesn't seem to be any sound coming from the other parts. And the sound is very muted and crackly. Have these simply grown too old and dried up or something? Anybody have an idea what I can try?

I'll try new wires (have some in stock) and then another amp/receiver. The cheap speakers still work, but perhaps the receiver isn't powerful enough to drive the KEFs. Thanks

Hi there,

better check the speaker wiring, this can be a loose or a worn speaker wire on the unit..

try also connecting other speaker to test the amp connector if it has no fault. also do try connectiong the speaker on a different amp or reciever,.

How to connect my Bose 901 series vI speaker to yamaha rx v740 and rotel rb 1582. Appreciate your help. Thanks

The Bose controller gets wired in series between the pre-amp and the power amp.

I presume you plan to use the 901's as the front L&R pair. So the cables going from the 740's Pre-Out Front L&R go to the inputs on the Bose controller. The outputs of the Bose controller go to the power amp Front L&R channel inputs.

Getting no sound hooked up to pre-amp and 2 rotel 200w amps with snell speakers

You didn't say whether the player is connected by 2 RCA cables (analog) or by digital cable. If by RCA, does the player have a headphone jack? I had a player once with a piece of a headphone that broke off inside the jack, muting the analog outputs.

It can be possible to bi-amp a pair of Klipsch RB-81 with this receiver for stereo listening, and if yes, how...

Bi-amping indicated that you have two amps, one for the tweeters, adn another for the woofer, in a two way system. If you don't have two seperate amps, you can use the speaker A & B outputs to run seperate speaker llines to each set of speaker inputs, but that will not be true bi-amping. Another alternative is to use jumpers to connect the speaker inputs together, this not needing seperate amps. Here's a link to the owner's manual:

Please send me a diagram of how the wiring is to be set up on the back of the speakers

The red connector on the speaker should be connected to the Pos.(+) connection on the Receiver/Amp. The Black to the Neg. (-) connection. ( for the proper speaker) Front Left, Front Right, etc. All, or most paired wire has either a black stripe, different shape on one,or different colour wire(silver/copper) So if you hook up the Blk striped or silver to the Neg.(black terminal) on the speaker, do so at the other end (receiver ) If both speakers aren't hooked up the same, they will work, but there won't be as much Bass because the speakers will be out of phase.(when one speaker cone is moving out,the other will be moving inward.

Hi Dear Support Team I just bought KEF Q300 speaker from online market in US and ship that speakers to Malaysia. Once I got it found that the HF of one speaker is not functioning. Please help me with...

Since even the KEF website has no manual for this model http://www.kef.com/us/support/download we're on our own.

In the picture of the rear panel look closely at the speaker posts and those silly link knobs for each one. Unless you're biwiring (BUY wiring) those minus contacts should be electrically connected to each other and the positives to each other. Most other speakers with this dubious capability have simply jumper bars in place to ensure continuity.

I'm thinking you either have a mis-set Link Knob or one of them has simply failed. With volume turned down to something medium try manipulating them to see if the HF driver wakes up.

You can prove that the HF driver works or not by attaching the speaker wire directly to it (top pair).

No matter what the result I would advise you to contact them and demand a manual be made public.

Morning I have a set of KEF Q 5 floor standing

I'd suspect a shorting voice coil in the woofer or a loose connection inside that vibrates and presents a wildly varying load.

Disconnect the bi-wiring jumpers and try driving each 'half' separately as a test for tripping the amp.

No sound to remote speakers in dining & deck areas.

Incoming from WHAT? Ampifiers accept inputs via RCA connections and send amplified audio to the speakers via the + and - OUTPUT terminals.

I'm guessing your colored wires are from your speakers and that there is a piece of this puzzle we do not see - how the speakers on the deck and in the dining area are wired.

You say, "was working ok previously"... previous to WHAT? Something changed.

You can probably troubleshoot and resolve this yourself.

Set the amp to a medium output level.

If the wires are simply leading to either or both pairs of speakers you could select any two of them and connect them to one side of the amp. Only a pair going to the same speaker(s) will produce sound. Once you identify one pair, the other pair probably goes to the other speakers. Connect them to the other channel output.

The last piece would be to establish correct phasing between the speakers. Bass response will suffer if they're not IN-phase. Play something with substantial bass. Listen closely, then reverse the wires on one side only. Test again. If it IMPROVES you have it right. If it losses bass, put the wires back the way they were.

Which speaker wires feed which speakers throughout my house?

Since this is a custom install and the wires don't follow a rule the only way to find which is which is to disconnect all the remaining speakers, plug in light bulbs in their places and check every single pair till they all match and their corresponding bulb lights up.

Bose 901 speakers the wiring inside

- Bose 901 Series I and II speakers have 8 Ohm impedance each.
- A row of 3 speakers in series gives you 24 Ohm.
- 3 parallel rows gives you finally 8 Ohm.

Front with 8 speakers (view from the rear):
(1) (3) (5) (7)
(2) (4) (6) (8)

Rear speaker is number (9)

Row 1: -(1)+ -(3)+ -(7)+
Row 2: -(5)+ -(9)+ -(2)+
Row 3: -(8)+ -(6)+ -(4)+
