Question about Gateway GT5670 Desktop PC

1 Answer

Boot screen with vertical lines and random monitor idling

Ok first i was on a game ( Garry's Mod) and then my computer wigged out n froze. After that wen it rebooted it BSOD with a 0x000000116 error. I asked my freind and he helped me with that problem but once i got into the computer and was loading the desktop, there were vertical hues lines of yellow running down the screen. I thought it mite be my screen so i tried another screen but no luck. Same vertical hue lines running down the front of my screen. Also i now cannot play any games at this time because the computer tells me that i dont have the hardware acceleration graphics for it. After that we tried a new card and the computer would not start at all so i thought it mite be the power supply so we tried a spare power supply. The computer now turns on but the screen wont come up with a CMOS splash. We tried taking out the video card and running it with on board graphics but it still doesnt work any 1 have any ideas as to wat the problem is. My Gateway GT5670 first failed when I restored it to its factory default because it was unable to retrieve Windows updates. Then it began running unusually slowly so I had to bring it in for a repair. The repair center diagnosed it as a hard drive failure and replaced the HD and when it returned, it seemed to work OK. Now the old problems of rebooting have returned along with a new problem of a black, idle monitor suddenly appearing and being unable to bring it back to life. Sometimes, upon rebooting, the vertical lines appear on Gateway's boot screen (F9/F10 screen).

Unplug the monitor video cable from the computer. Power on the monitor and see if you get the same results. If so then your monitor is defective.

Vertical strip of flashing horizontal lines on Acer Aspire 7551G screen

More than likely it's the lcd screen and will have to be replaced. I could be the video card, but most likely the lcd screen especially when you can put pressure on the screen and cause changes. To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then the problem is with your lcd screen and the video card is ok. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same as your lcd screen then the problem is with your video card inside the computer.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Once you narrow it down to the lcd screen as being the problem you might try taking the lcd screen apart to reseat the lcd cable on the back at the top of the lcd. Just unplug it and plug it back into the connector. You can also try doing the same where the lcd cable plugs into the motherboard. Just pull it out and put it back.

Screen is white with black vertical lines upon booting up. I can't get beyond this screen.

The video card (built-in on the motherboard) maybe faulty or the LCD screen is faulty.
Connect an external monitor to the video port of your laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up your laptop. If the video card id OK then the laptop will automatically divert the video to the external monitor. Then the problem is a faulty LCD screen.
If the external monitor also displays black vertical lines then you have a faulty video card and since it is part of the motherboard it is impossible to fix.

Dell 610 here stuck on boot up screen with green vertical lines

If it is unable to boot up, its probably not a monitor issue, although it could well be without examing it. If your good with computers, you can take it apart and look to see if the lcd ribbon cable is torn or damaged. If you don't feel you can do it, contact dell support or take it to your local computer repair shop. I hope this helps!
