Question about Garmin GPS

Replace old Marine GPS unit

My old 182 died. Garmin no longer supports or repairs (and I don't want it repaired) these obsolete units. Does Garmin have a newer model available that would use the same antena, power plug and BLUECHART chip? I really don't want to get involved in a re-wire job.

Thanks in advance for your help.

That was good news. Could you recommend a model for me. I normally fish the Atlantic City, NJ ocean and bay areas. The new model does not need a lot of "bells and whistles". I'm mainly concerned with a safe return to port from offshore at night or in the fog.

    Thanks again.

Our Garmin c330 doesn't stay on any longer. We bought it on '07..what to do? Thanks! Gina

Will it stay on if its plugged into your cigarette lighter or your computer? If so I would then suspect your battery is bad in your unit. I then would suggest you contact Garmin about sending it to them for repair/replacement of your battery. Garmin can be reached at you need to contact their technical support department and talk to them about how to get your unit repaired.

I hope this helps you out and if it does please leave me some feedback.

Does nothing

The battery CAN be replaced, however it is not an easy swap battery pack.
The battery in all garmin units is soldered directly to the PCB.
Garmin does not have authorized repair centers, and they have a flat-rate repair if your unit is no longer under warranty.

CLICK HERE to see more information about sending it back.
Your unit is listed as a $89 flat rate repair.

My forerunner will no longer turn on or even charge, can they be repaired or am I best to buy a new unit?

Garmin will repair it for about eighty bucks.

But first, try cleaning the electrical contacts on the forerunner and the cradle by rubbing them with a pencil eraser. The slight abrasive should remove any oxidation on the metal. A bad contact between the unit and the cradle could be your problem.

Memory Battery Died in my Garmin GPS 12XL...Can I replace it?

Wildstreak, same happened to my GPSMAP 180. Its old and no longer supported by Garmin. I did call them and they gave me the model and number of the battery (mine is a Panasonic) Also advised that units are heat sealed so I am taking mine to a local electdronics shop that also sells Garmin and have them replace the battery.

Sounds like a battery problem and I ordered a new battery to see if that will fix the unit.
We will see!
