It is too slow too when start and i cant play dvds

Dear user,

Slow start could because of too many applications included while booting, please disable the unwanted applications like skype/yahoo/gmail/msn by changing their auto load settings,

next download some disk cleaner software , normally most give the start up edit options from here you can easily remove unwanted apps.

Also your anti virus takes up time on boot specially AVG, try using some other anti virus and some antivirus may be performing background scanning thus slowing down your PC, try to disable this if possible.

Tip

My laptop is running too slow.

Hi.

The most common reason for a computer running slow is insufficient RAM memory.
Check specifications on manufacturer website to find out the kind of memory supported and the maximum RAM allowed.

A computer running Windows Vista should have at least 2 GB to run smoothly.

Increase the RAM, if RAM available is no more than 512MB, then it must be surely and immediately upgraded.

Check also your hard drive free space. If you have less than 1GB free space on hard disk, Windows will have to write continuously virtual memory pages to hard disk, and that will slow down the processing speed. Also check fragmentation. Files pieces may be distributed in different areas of the hard disk, resulting in slower reading speed.
Go to
Start>>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defregmenter and do a Defrag of the hard disk if needed.

If you have at least 1 GB RAM on XP or Linux, and 2 GB on Vista, and you took care of your hard drive, then you can check the processes that are starting up automatically and remove the useless one, or spot malaware that can affect speed. You can use a software like Hijack This, and search on google te function of each process started on the list reported by the software.

You can download Hijack this here MajorGeeks | If download does not start, then click at the top of the page, where it says Click Here If It Does Not.
Be careful if you delete the wrong files using this software you can harm the system, and Windows may not work properly.

If you think you have malaware you can also install Spy Bot, and do a system scan. Download Spybot from The home of Spybot.

If all the above does not work, and there is no malaware, then you usually reinstall the system.

Check also the bios settings, BIOS can downgrade the CPU speed on default , even if this is uncommon on recent BIOS.

If a computer is still slow with a fresh system and enough resources then it is one of those rare occasions when you have an hardware fault.
Hardware that can cause slow down is: RAM CPU Motherboard HD Video card.

Some tips on procedure can damage your windows installation. Do not download Hijackthis software and do not change BIOS settings and do not touch hardware unless you are sure of what you are doing.

My Ram is512 MB but have installed vista and is very slow now want to change Ram ,How can I do it?

The easiest way is to take the laptop to your closest pc shop and ask them to add at least 1GB stick of ram. If you're up to it, I'd even suggest scrapping the old 512 and add two sticks of 1GB, so you have 2GB ram.
On the other hand, I'd suggest that you revert back to XP. Vista is by far one of the worst operating systems ever made and it's only a resource drain and annoying. With XP on your PC you can use it for years to come, and if you want to freshen up the way it looks you can always search for some themes to download and install.

Mouse continually skips around. I changed batteries, reset it and everything. What's wrong?

You have the tracking speed set too high.Go to 'start'-'control panel'-'printers and other hardware'-'mouse'.After opening mouse you'll see "pointer options",click and you'll see "pointer speed".Move the speed down from fast to slow until you can see it easily. The other thing is if you don't have enough RAM memory it won't be able to keep up with simple hand movements.Click "start'-right click"computer"left click"properties"and up will come what you have for a computer will be displayed.Near the bottom of the page will be RAM,to it's left is how much you have.XP you need at least 512MB(1GB is better-up to 3GB best)Vista 1GB minimum,up to 6GB with Vista x64.Adding Ram is the easiest way to speed up a sluggish machine. Please re post if you'd like to get into changing setting for best performance.

Slow laptop dv 9208 w vista

If you're having Vista, you will need 1gb RAM minimum. Vista is resource intensive, concentrated more on graphics, and a lot of Hardware compatibility issues. Windows XP is fine and better as of now which runs great with 1GB of ram and a pretty processor of 2.0 ghz ...If you think of speeding up ur lappy better go for XP .increasing ur RAM will increase the number of apps that you can run productively at a time.

1st off - do a restore on the computer to bring it back to factory settings. This will clean it up and speed it up as well. 2nd you need more ram . Ram is very cheap and Vista needs lots of ram to run.
Thishis should solve your problem. Total cost to you is about $50.00

How to make Vista faster?

You can try changing your Windows Theme to a more plain less animations ect..

To do this click on the desktop right-click now click on Personalise and now there are many things you can adjust to improve your computers performance like screen saver settings, wallpaper settings, theme settings and many more.

If your using the theme Vista Aero (with glass effect) then i would recommend you to change the theme to the Vista Basic theme.

The glass effect uses lots of your computers RAM and will slow it down dramatically.

Here is a guide so you can change your theme with example pictures so it's much easyier to understand what to do - http://grok.lsu.edu/Article.aspx?articleId=638

Good luck. Hope my solution was helpful.
