Can't change filter without water pouring out

When I try to replace the filter on my Whirlpool GS6NBEXRB, I push the button next to the filter it immediately starts leaking water. The water isn't shutting off so I can replace the filter. I have replaced the filter many times over the past three years

Hi, If you can't shut the valve off to the water source, you will need to shut the water off to your house and change both the filter and the valve to the refrigerator.
When changing the filter, you will get a little water while removing the filter but, not very much. I hope this helps you.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Looking for water filter to be replaced. The red light is on and I can't find filter.

On a Whirlpool you can check the bottom front black vent piece, filter cover looks like a half-moon shaped cover. Its under the freezer side. There is a thumb-sized black push button next to it which will 'eject' the filter. Push on the black button and the filter pops out

How do you get the water filter out of refrigerator so you can replace it

Without knowing your particular model number, I checked and most 25 cu.ft. side by sides have the water filter in the grille. You just push a release button and it pops out. There is a cap on the filter, do not through it away as you will need it on a new filter. Also ensure the O-ring protective covers are removed on the new filter prior to installing. You can run the water dispenser without a filter as well. Here is a link to the PDF for one type of 25 cu. ft. Whirlpool side by side.

Water filter won't come out when I push the button

Push button? It should be a turn to the left to remove if it is a whirpool located at the bottom. These are twist out not push to release. The only push to releases are made by electrolux.

I need to change the water filter on my refrigerator

Since I didn't have the service manual, I had to play around until I stumbled into a way to remove the filter. To remove the filter: 1. locate the filter (bottom front under the refrigerator door). 2. push the button next to the filter cap until the filter is released. 3 remove the fillter and take that filter to the local home supply store to make sure you have the correct match. 4. replace cap on new filter, remove inlet protecting caps on new filter, and push the filter into place.
