Re: p-334wt

First, go to ur Router Configuration Page. There are 2 pg into related WireLess Configuration Settings. So u find ur problem into the WPA security configuration is under the wlan Security section, and then you select WPA PSK (Pre Shared Key) and TKIP encryption for Lan security. As well as changing the WPA Mode to enabled, u will need to enter a WPA Pre-Shared Key. So u found, which is a Network key and why to need.

How do I name and secure a netgear r router?

Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to one of the ports on the router. On the PC, hold down the "Windows" key, and press/release the 'r' key, and release the "Windows" key.
In the window that opens, type 'CMD' and press ENTER.
Type 'IPCONFIG' and press ENTER.
Look for the "IP-V4" address of the "gateway" -- probably something like ''.
Open Internet Explorer, and type '' (or something like that).
Now, login to the router's own web-server, using the router's "default" ID/password.
To secure it, set a new password.
Configure its "wireless" interface, to set an 'SSID' for your wireless network, and to configure it to use 'WPA2' protocol. Configure a password for your wireless network.
Restart the router.

Vista ultimate 32 not connecting to wireless

169.254.x.x IP suggests that your NIC is not communicating with the DHCP server of your Router. Try disabling/enabling the NIC card and in the TCP/IP properties, make sure that the IP address is configured as "Bobtain IP address automatically"
Also try installing the latest drivers for your NIC card.

How to get rid of old "unsecured" wireless network

Are you referring to the Linksys SSID showing up when you browse for available wireless networks? Also, are you in an apartment building or otherwise relatively close to other houses/residents? It is possible that you and a neighbor both have Linksys APs and if neither was secured originally, your neighbor could have been connecting to your AP and vice versa. This definitely would explain slowness especially if you or your neighbor does any type of video or audio streaming.

One way to test this is to shutoff your Linksys router and view available wireless networks on your computer. If "Linksys" still shows up, it is most likely someone else's router/AP.

As long as your SSID shows up and you can only connect to it via the WEP key, your AP is secure.

Let me know if you get different results than I explained above.

P-334WT Router Freezing

Your first step is to upgrade the firmware. OR re-install the firmware. Do you mean freezing like, lights lock up and stay on regardless of the activity? Which that would point to firmware. Or do you mean that your internet just cuts out? Which I would look more towards your computers browser, possible background applications or even the NIC.
