Whats the model number of your set and I will assist you as the hissing is most likely the flyback or the HV splitter. The model number will help me decide which. also let me know if the hissing is louder at the front of the set or louder at the rear.

Our tv when itis on for a while some times the picture freezes an then goes blank an a loud hissing an squeech sound we have to unplug it to turn it off.

Hissing sound normally from Power Supply unit(PSU), usually from Transfomers in the PSU. Usually caused by bad capacitors. Try this capacitor replacement kit, on ebay only $15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Repair-Kit-RCA-L32WD22-LCD-TV-Capacitors-/230637983468?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b31856ec

Could not find any PSU board available at the moment, but have tried that kit and it works.

Hissing noise, sound goes off and and i have to turn t.v off and turn it back on

This is a protection circuit that prevents the tv from coming on (to stop damage of the components) ....you need to check your voltages off the power supply and make sure they all read well (EX: 24v12v5v etc). Also look for popped capacitors that would make the values lower than need be for the tv to power on properly.

The hiss is a popped (blown) capacitor! You need to replace it before you keep trying to power on the tv...you will cause more damage

Please rate if this helps!

Philips widescreen flat TV model #50PF9966-37 50" plasma, as the tv warms up a loud hissing sounds comes from the back. The hissing sound does not go away when you mute the broadcast sound. when you change...

From what I'm seeing online, the bulbs in the Ambilight may be the culprit. I also read that a firmware upgrade could fix the issue too. There was also a recall of some TV's with that issue, so I would check with Philips about your model and serial number and see if your TV was included in the recall. If you raise enough cain and threaten to never buy from them again, they may get your set fixed for you... even if the warranty is up!

Good luck and please post feedback!

There is a hissing noise in back of tv and picture goes on and off zenith d36d51

Hissing noise and picture on and off means faulty flyback transformer, it has a small crack and voltage is leaking out, replace the flyback, if tv still not working replace horizontal output transistor (broken flyback could blow the transistor).

Hissing sound from a Panasonic old TV...Sound and picture are OK. The hissing sound even continues when the MUTE on the Box is ON. The hissing only stops when the MUTE on the TV is ON. I am using the...

If you disconnect or power off the converter box does the hiss go away?
If you connect a VCR or DVD player does it still have the hiss? We
need to isolate what source is causing the hiss if it is from the set or
if it is from the converter box.
When you turn the volume control down on the set, does the hiss
reduce in level? If mute stops it, it should reduce in level as you
turn the volume down. Then turn up the sound level control on
the converter box whether its a manual control or by remote. If you
can get a combination that minimizes the hiss and gets higher sound
level from the programming that may cure it.
I am not familiar with the converter box you are using. Are you using
Audio/Video cables from it to the set or is it coming out with coaxial cable
and used on a channel? If you are using a very old set with a tuner input
perhaps the fine tuning is out of adjustment.

Hissing Sound

A hissing sound that comes from the back of the set (not from the speaker) usually indicates a high voltage leak, most likely around the "suction cup" at the top of the picture tube or around the flyback transformer. Remove the back of the set and turn it on, and when you hear the hissing sound, shut off all the lights in the room and you should be able to see a purple-ish or white-ish glow from the spot that is hissing. Shut the set off, discharge the high voltage and clean and seal the problem area. Of course this should be done by someone experienced with stopping high voltage leaks.
