Re: clicking noise and out of range
Digital is supposed to stop your calls from been listened into, if it is analogue it is very easy.
are there a choise of different channels? can you haer her conversations?
turn off the base and try turning on the handset and see if you can listen in?
if the phone battery is getting old it won't transmit as far.
the signals move in line of sight so if you move the base it might work better for you and maybe make it difficult to listen in?9They might get your signal stronger than there own?

Change the channel or code setting. It's also possible the 'pairs" for your house and your neighbors are "crossed". Does it happen with all phones or just the cordless one. If it's all phones, the problem is in the phone lines.
for posting your question here on Fixya.com. I am sorry to hear of your husbands recent passing.
A pump can cause loud noise for several reasons. Some noise is normal with a pump
but when it is very noisy it is indicating a potential problem. If the
seal is damaged it may whine and then it usually starts to leak(sometimes a seal leak allows water to get into the
bearing at the pump end and reduce its lifespan). If
the bearings are damages they will make excessive noise before doing
other bad things. These are the most common
noises indicating a problem.
If I hear one of these whines I usually make a mental note and let
the customer know there is a potential issue. I give them the option
of letting it go until it either starts to leak or worse or fixing it
right away. Sometimes it operates normally for quite a while while other
times it fails very soon.
The motor can be replaced in this pump and therefore cost less. If you have a Leslies pool supply store in your area you can take it to them and if they are not busy they usually fix it while you wait if they have all the parts. They usually only charge you for the parts to repair it.
The only problem you may have is removing the pump and reinstalling it. You might want to find a friend, relative or neighbor to help you do these two tasks. If this happens you can see what tools they use and how it is done so you can do similar things later.

Sounds like the batteries may not be holding a full charge and depleting rapidly. Batteries are usually only good for a few years at best. Given the age of your phones and the much better quality of today's units (DECT 6.0) it is probably a wiser choice to replace the phones than just the batteries. At 5 years old the old phones have served you well and you'll probably enjoy the benefits of newer technology. There are many good brands to choose from - my personal preferences are Uniden and Panasonic.
This can be one of a couple of things. First of all, if this is a multi-handset phone, go off hook on two handsets at the same time and see if you can hear yourself in both phones (Speak into one while listening to the other) If it is only a single handset phone, do the same thing only with another phone. If you cannot hear anything coming from the uniden phone, it may have a bad mic in the handset and would need to be replaced. (the handset not the mic) If you bought it less then a year ago and still have the receipt, call uniden at 18002971023 and they will help you get it replaced.
I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY THE BATTERY. AS THE BATTERIES ARE THREE YEARS OLD AND CONTINUE TO POWER THE UNIT I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S THAT. IT STATES THAT THE BATTERY SHOULD LAST ONE YEAR AND WOULD INDICATE "LOW BATTERY". THE PHONES ARE ALWAYS IN THE CRADLES AND POWERED UP. I TESTED THE OUTSIDE LINE AND FOUND NO NOISE. AS THE BATTERIES ARE $20 EACH, I BOUGHT A NEW PHONE FOR $10. SINCE THEN, I HAVE RE-CONNECTED THE OLD UNIDEN PHONES, BOTH IN MY HOME OFFICE AND IN MY BEDROOM AND THEY SEEM TO WORK JUST FINE WITH A MINIMUM OF NOISE. THIS ALL OCURRED AFTER SEVERE SNOW, WIND AND RAIN STORMS.

If the machine won't go past 4 rings (which it should somewhere in the answering machine settings menu) you could always change your greeting to a message that tells the caller to wait a few more moments for you to answer, while you get to the phone....
