I just finished unsuccessfully repairing my FE-280. It had a sticking lens. I got the lens assembly out to try to clean it, but there is no way to get inside the zoom mechanism. Replacement lens assemblies are available to buy but I'm not a fan of Olympus mechanical reliability now.

Take off the obvious screws to get the back off. Don't try to remove the front. Note where every screw goes and keep them in order. Work the top of of the back cover off by rocking it. Unsnap the LCD from its clips and pull out the flex cable connectors. Remove the screws holding the perimeter of the black plastic lens. assembly. Beware that there may be a stored charge on the flash. located behind the flash and close to the screw by the lens assembly flex cable.

By the way, an initial cleaning by using a shop vac on the lens from the outside while opening and closing it worked for a while.

Hi,

Should not try if you have ventured into anything like that before.
It may result in lots of screws on a side and lots of parts on other side.

Also its difficult to give instructions online.

Turn on power, lens goes out and in, then shuts off

It must be a lens problem. Could be a semi-broken lens FLEX cable - happens to brake in these cameras (also FE-330). The FLEX is available on ebay, but it takes some technical knowledge and experience to replace, so you should give it to a camera technician. Also there could be a problem with the focus system. It could be cheaper to buy a new camera. As lens main and shutter flex cables brake on this model, I wouldn't suggest you investing money in the repair as it will fail again - sooner or later. I have repaired a lot of these.

Hello,

Only Authorized Olympus Helpdesk can determine if your camera is still repairable or not. That's why I suggest that you bring it to them for some technical diagnostic test. Above link is the helpdesk in America for easier reference. Just make sure that you keep the camera dry and in a safe area.

Thank you.

Lens on my camera not working I want to fix the camera myself

If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.

1. Check the
batteries. (obvious I know).
2. The
camera has been dropped or knocked.
3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.

Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average
home user can remove and take apart. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.

I got sand in the lens and now it won't autofocus! Is there a way I can clean it?

You can try to blow compressed air into the front of the lens assembly, hoping to dislodge the sand. If you try to take the camera apart, you will have to disassemble the whole thing just to get to the lens assembly, and then you will have to take it apart to clean it, and then reassemble it. Quite a job- which is why repair shops just replace the whole lens assembly with a good one when there's a problem. If you don't have any success with the compressed air trick, and decide to have it serviced, get an estimate first. Often the cost of repair exceeds that of a new camera, especially these days as the prices of cameras on sale can't be beat. Good luck, you might get lucky, hope so.

My Nikon FE film advance lever is stuck. It does not move at all, there is no film in the camera. The repair shop wants $100 to fix it which is more than the camera is worth I think. I would like to do...

Have you tried fresh batteries and setting the shutter speed dial to M90 or m250 whichever you have? If this does'nt work you can remove the camera bottom plate and gently pull a lever away from the advance cog. Some times things get out of sync in there. Sorry I can't be more specific but I did this many years ago. Good Luck.

Olympu fe-370 digital camera-won't turn on when push power button

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first - try a different set too but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Olympus FE-190 lense

If the internal lens barrel gets knocked out of alignment it will cause that condition. If the camera senses that the lens is not in the proper position or not moving, it will turn back off rather than cause more damage. Pushing on the lens barrel to try to fix it will usually cause more problems than it already has. It has to be disassembled to be repaired.

at this point you may also want to check on your warranty status.

Shutter remains open

The problem could lie in the meter/speed dial unit or in the shutter itself. New parts are no longer available for that model. You may be able to find a good one on one of the auction sites or even Craigslist. A good used one would be less than a repair even if parts were on hand.
