SOURCE: NTSC AND PAL TROUBLES

What I use. My best tool is an Artec DVD+R/W recorder. I can use the resulting DVD on the PC for editing or such. For digitising on the PC, my best tool is the 49USD Hauppauge TV PCI card. As to your sound issue, if it's the same USB device I used a few years ago, it tortured me to get the latest video driver, sound card driver and directx before it would work. I also connected the audio to the line-in.

Canon zr700 won't play tape

That is the pinch roller. If it does not press the tape against the capstan, then the tape will not pass the read/write heads. Replace it.

Can I use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes in my DCR_TRV250E?If so would I be able to playback recorded tapes on the UK televisions?.

DCR-TRV250E is a PAL version camera of the Digital8 format.
Yes you can use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes. The camera will record a PAL digital picture on the tapes which means that you can play back the tapes in PAL and therefore you will be able to playback recorded tapes on UK televisions because they are also of the PAL format.

When I try to play PAL tapes, there is no picture

You also need a PAL television or monitor to be able to view them. If you don't have a PAL compatible monitor or TV it will not work because the resolution and scanning is very different than an NTSC monitor. Your canon camera is probably designed only for NTSC use if it was sold in North America and can't be used for PAL use.

Convert NTSC VHS video tapes to DVD PAL

If you do not have an adaptor to play the tapes to a standard VHS viseo player, you can use the camera as the player by connecting the AV out to a DVD recorder. There are hundreds of models in the market, and do not worry if it is NTSC or PAL because 99% of DVD recorder accepts both.

Not reading Hi8 tapes

Fidus, I am not sure where you are located but the camcorder you're trying to use now is a PAL version of Sony's 8mm camcorder. If the tapes you recorded earlier were recorded in D8 (digital 8) or 8mm/Hi8 format NTSC, they will not play correctly in this unit. The NTSC and PAL formats are different and not compatible. Hope this helps you. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org

Pal on SC-L700

This model will play only NTSC. NTSC is the television broadcast system used in the USA (and a few other countries) Tapes of any format than NTSC will not play properly in this camcorder.
