Question about Brother MFC 240C All-In-One InkJet Printer

Wont copy in black because color cartridges are empty

I have the MFC-240c and it takes 4 cartridges, black, red, blue and yellow. yesterday it started flashing that all the colors were empty(u can clearly see ink still in them) and it wont copy in black(which is all i need it to do). if the cartridges are individual, it shouldnt matter if the color ones r empty, it should still make my black and white copies. how can i bypass the color cartridges, so it will still do B&W copies? the unit is not hooked to a computer, i use it freestanding as a copier if that helps.

we answered yes wen asked if the cartridges were replaced. i finally gave in and spent the $37 for 3 new color cartridges. as soon as replaced, the unit worked properly but, it still seems ridiculous considering i only want to do B&W copies. the black cartridge was fine, and the copier had been used about 3 hours prior to recieving the message about the color cartridges. and ive never even ran a color copy in it. lol the color ones should still be full.

I have a Brother MFC-240C which will print in color but not in Black. Could you tell me why. It doesn't display any error message. However, I just replaced the color cartridges which it said were empty but not the black. What could be causing this???

Hi,

I'm sure you're using the Blue button to make the copy as it should do B/W copies only.
Double-check that black cartridge is not empty.

If the printer was connected to computer then we could have used diagnostics software.

So we start with a workaround.
Check if its display menu has any option of Ink cartridge level reset or something like that. If it has then do the reset.

If there is no such Menu option, the while the printer is On, open the compartment of printer cartridges and take out the 4 cartridges
and put it back.
Does any option in display Menu comes asking if cartridges are replaced? answer yes if it asks.

Now try to do a copy.

Hope this helps.
If it doesn't work then a question, how many days before the printer was last used?

My brothers mfc 240c printer wont print because one ink is not full but it has black

You need to have ink in all cartridges to print. You can put a small electrical tape over the little window on the cartridge to print with empty inks, but you risk an air bubble in the ink tubes. If you don't care about printing color at some time, just cover the window on empty carts.

My mfc-240c won't print red, even with a new cartdrige.

Try running a few cleanings on the color.

Press the ink button and select cleaning,, do about five cleanings. Print the ink quality test page (from the ink button as well) and see the quality if it improved.

If it still doesnt print its possible the ink is clogged and may need servicing to replace the printer head

Printer will not print dut to other color cartige. being empty.

The color cartridges print text that appears black by mixing the three primary colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) to make composite black. To achieve a realistic black, large quantities of colored ink are used. Because black cartridges use much less ink to create a similar shade of black, they print more pages in black than the color cartridge.
If the color cartridges on the printer are next to empty, you will not be able to get perfect prints at all.

Please have the cartridges replaced to do the printing jobs again.

Cannot print blue/green colors.

I think your cartridge is defective, you need to replace a new cartridge.

MFC-440CN printer. Colors are not proper

I'd like to help if I can. These printers have 4 cartridges. One black, one magenta (reddish), one cyan (blue) and one (yellow). The text and pictures are printed with a combination of these inks. When one or more is low, printing will be as you described. Your situation seems to be that you are out of black (so the cyan is trying to help and can only print blue) and you are probably out of yellow so the magenta is trying to do what it can. If you'll change all of the cartridges, I am pretty sure that you will have your problem solved.

Finally, there is a great place to get cartridges for your printer. The link is:

www.monstertoners.com/dcp-130c.html?gclid=CN2s_uiEsJgCFRIcawodQz_rUg

You can buy a multi-pak consisting of 4 black and 2 each of the three colors for $39.95 plus s/h

I use the cartridges and they have proven to be reliable.

If my help has been satisfactory, please give me your rating.

Mfc-240c reading offline and empty black

Regarding your problem: If one of the color ink cartidges is out of ink, the MFC 240C printer will not operate when you only install a black ink cartidge. It requires that all four catridges have ink available in them for it to function. When you examine a cartridge it may appear that it has a little ink in it when you get message that the cartridges needs to be replaced because a little ink remains to prevent the print head from drying out. BROTHER MFC 240C - REPLACED BLACK INK. LCD PROMPTED ME TO PICK # 1 FOR NEW AND #2 IF NOT. I SELECTED #1. NOW THE LCD SHOWS 'INK EMPTY CYAN' 'REPLACE INK' 'NO CARTRIDGE' OR REINSERT CARTRIDGE. THIS ISN'T...

you have to change the cyan (blue) color, too. Its empty ;-)

The machine runs a cleaning circle which always consumes some amount of ink of ALL colors.
