My omnitech monitor is turning red when it wants to. no certain program just whenever

Colours on the screen are generated by "mixing" the 3 primary colours.
Of the primary colours is RED.
So, your LCD monitor is not receiving signals from your computer,
specifying the other two primary colours.

Check the data-cable between your computer and your monitor,
to ensure that the connections are tight at both ends.

Try a different data-cable.

Try your monitor on a different computer, with two different data-cables.

Try a different monitor on your computer.

It could be the video-card inside your computer is failing to "send" one or two of the primary colours.

What voltage do i need for my ViewSonic VA720

Monitors and PCs (amongst other things) use a fairly standard power cable. You should not need to worry about the specifics as there is generally no transformer needed for a monitor.

Weird water-like image distortion

this is electronic advice, dont do with yourself if you dont have experince about electronics,it will be very dangerous...if you have experience then you do this...
you open the lcd and you remove the power supply chips, it contains more capacitors like 1200mF 16v..i think so..but check the voltage if it is correct in the volt meter, caused the sounds like power distortion..if the voltage is less the screen will be "trembling and shaking, its like very frequent water ripples. This problem though dissapears as you move more and more to the right, but its clearly visible to at least no the 1/3 of the screens horizontal length." check

Wavy distortion on bottom of screen

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Depending on the length of time the monitor has been used, this would often indicate a power supply problem, more specifically a low main B+. Since you are familiar with electronic components & circuitry, you might want to check the big filter capacitor right after the bridge diode on the hotside, likewise the capacitor after the single diode on the secondary side and or the capacitor along the + rail going to the FBT/HOT.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

You could possibly have 2 problems with your monitor, though they are more then likely linked.

The Viewsonic monitors (like most) end up with buldging capacitors after several years use. This is typical of most equipment these days.

You can either replace the capacitors yourself or get in contact with someone local to you to have it done.
The reason I say there could be 2 problems that are linked is the fact when your screen does finally come on, it flicks the screen up for a second which would normally indicate a problem in the inverter circuit.

Because of the power fault though I believe it is more likely the one fault causing two problems.
With the capacitors failing, the voltage inside that powers the internal video board are not stable. That is what causes it to behave as it is.

On the homepage of this site you can use the Repair Service section (on the left side about half way down the page) to find a local repairman if that is the route you want to go.
