One of two problems. your needle and seat is leaking or the float has a hole in it

What is the model and type # on the engine and I can tell you what part # you need and how to do it. First, be sure the float is good. Take it off the carb and shake it. If you can here anything inside it, that means it is leaking. Usually not a problem with plastic floats, though.

You have to remove the carb from the engine. Remove float and needle. In the needle hole there is a rubber seat. Remove the seat with a pick. You will need Tecumseh part # 631021. Push the new seat back in the hole with a punch just large enough to fit. Be sure to put the grooved side towards the bottom of the hole, smooth side out. A drop of oil on it helps keep it on the end of the punch and slide in the hole. Put the float back on. It should not be sitting level, but slightly angled. Hope this helps. Dwain

3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton won't run unless I pour gas into carb

This sounds like a problem with the suction. If the air filter is clean then it will need new carb gaskets. There may also be an issue with the pressure being created by the engine.

Lawnmower carburetor problem.

Remove carb float bowl. Check float operation. Float down gas flow, float up no gas flow. Clean float bowl. Observe bowl screw, see if there is a hole or holes thru the screw. Clean out with thin wire, bread wrapper works peeled back about an inch. Use wire to clean out center port of carb. Remove mounting pin of float, remove float and meter needle, clean out port up thru carb with wire. Reassemble try to start. Prime at least 3 times, ensure primer bulb is not cracked, replace if cracked. Replace air filter if dirty. Replace spark plug once a year. Fill oil. 30w. Mowers now have a low oil cutoff.

Float stuck in open position. When the gas evaporated in it there was a gunk left behind and then It was down and either froze up or there is trash keeping the needle valve from sealing up all the way.
So when you start it gas keeps pouring into the motor. It is suposed to shut off once it gets enough to run on.
Be real careful take the carb off and remove the bowl. And then the float. Take a q-tip and clean the needle valve port ou real good. And clean the rubber tip gently. Then put back together.
When it is upside down the float should be parallel with the carb. That would be the shut off point. You may have to adjust it.

That should do it. When you hook the gas line back up loosen the bowl and let gas in carb til it starts to run out. Then mow.

If it will start when you pour gas then its a fuel problem on some of these they have a screw at the bottom of the carb remove that and see if you have bad fuel. If that does not work then remove the carb and service it may just be a stuck float or something

My Troy Bilt Self Prop. Z-start won't keep running. I clean All, replace Filter and Plug, have clean gas and lubed all. It Starts for 2 seconds and then cuts off. What do you think it could be? Thanks....

I had the same problem, Tilt the lawnmower on it's side air filter facing up and remove air filter cover and air filter then remove the fuel bowl underneath the carb; then clean the fuel bowl with some gas and a clean rag. For the next step be sure to aim blower tip at target then look away before pressing trigger, this will prevent gasoline form getting into your eyes.Take an air compressor and carefully clean out the carb where the flap is and the tube where the fuel float that would rest inside fuel bowl is. Leave on side install everything back except for air filter and cover. Then pour a little gas in the carb to prime it, lay the lawnmower back on all 4 wheels and try to start.
