Take both the charger (which should have a output rating on it) and the blown fuses down to Radio Shack, Jack. They'll help you out.

I push start button and hold this more than 2 seconds but the starting screen is not opening i also connect to battery charger from car and then pushing again to start but no reaction i have tomtom...

The issue could be a low power in the Tomtom and that is the reason it is not switching on. Now here the problem could be with the charging cable/wire from the car charger which might not be giving power to the GPS. Check for the fuse at the connector.
If the fuse is blown off the power wont goes into the GPS and it wont get charged and wont swich on. Look at the tip of the connector which has that spring like contact. You will be able to turn that to open it and find a fuse. Replace it with the right "amp" as the existing one. You will get one from Radioshack.
If you have already checked it and sure it is charging could be issue with Tomtom itself..Good luckKris..

We have a Tomtom XL with a cigarette lighter connector; our car does not haveone of these . Is there an alternative cable/connector?

the only alternative is to hardwire it into the car, and you must utilize the car charger to supply the correct voltage (you can not supply 12V or it will blow out your tomtom)

your tomtom will not take more then 5v @ 2 amps so you need to go through the car charger by taking it apart and attaching the power from the car to the car charger input leads.

i dont recommend you try this if you do not fully understand what im saying, because you can easily ruin your gps by hooking it up wrong.

any decent mechanic should be able to do this in less then 20 minutes.

curious as to what kind of car you have that doesn't have some sort of aux power.

have you looked under the dash or the clove box...sometimes they are put out of sight, but i dont think i have ever seen a car without one.

Charger

I had the same exact problem! It should plug in to the back of the unit, but it wouldnt charge there either.

What i had to do was goto Radio Shack and buy a Universal Charger for my cigarette lighter that cost $14.00. It has multiple plugs and 'pins'. Find the right one, and set the volt/amp switch to 4 or 6 amps, whatever it says on the bottom of your TOM TOM. The person at Radio Shack helped me, they should be able to help you too!

Thanks,
Mark

TomTom XL Text-to-Speech not working

I had the same problem, before realising that text-to-speech on the TomTom XL on'y works if you've selected a *computer-generated" voice - and not all of them are. "Samantha/English-US" is computer-generated, for example, but "Tim/English-UK" is not (it's a recorded voice). When choosing from options in the "Change voice" menu option, check the top-right hand corner to tell whether a voice is computer-generated or not. Hope this helps.

Tomtom 910

I dont think so. The unit runs on 5 volts (why I dont know!!!) so the first thing to fry on a 12v hit is the on-off switch then some of the components. Sorry

Can i plug my tomtom 1 xL in to a 24v cigerate plug

Hello callan_1,

The USB car charger which TomTom makes for the One XL GPS receiver appears to support cigarette lighters with voltage from 12 to 24 volts. If you have this charger you should be able to use it power your GPS.

Best Regards,

Require value of D5

TomTom One uses a Linear Technologies chip LTC3455 as a USB/charger power controller. See http://cds.linear.com/docs/Datasheet/3455fc.pdf. This chip is susceptible to high transient voltages that result from resonances created by parasitic inductances and capacitances of the USB/in-car charger cable . Good designs using this chip suggest that a 1 ohm resistance be put in the path of the cable to reduce the Q of the resonance and hence transient voltages. A 6V Zener diode D5 also serves to protect the chip from these transients.
If the Zener diode is blown it is most likely the the LTC3455 chip is gone as well. You can replace the chip which costs £5.00 (located in the shielded portion of the PCB). The recommended Zener Diodes for this chip are either the EDZ5.6B or EDZ6.2B manufactured by ROHM (http://www.rohm.com/products/databook/di/pdf/edz5.6b.pdf or http://www.rohm.com/products/databook/di/pdf/edz6.2b.pdf). These can be used to replace D5. The STMicroeletronics SM2T6V8A can also be used to replace D5 (http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/ds/8694/sm2t.pdf). All the Zeners cost a modest £0.22. I hope this is helpful.
