i have a 5th gen ipod 'classic' model a1136 emc:2065. i am not having success entering into the diagnostic mode, although i was able to get into 'disc mode' a few days ago prior to reformatting it.

after reformatting and syncing, it appears that the unit is working fine (although i have no headphones for it, as i only use the unit in my car)

but the unit is not recognized by the alpine receiver (i see an error-2 code) and the ipod tellls me that it is attached to an unsupported unit. everything worked fine a few days ago.

got both units to recognize each other and working -- this is what worked for me should anyone want to try (after having been through this twice before, i've come to believe that just keep messing around with things and you just might have some luck)

step by step, this is what did the trick

    1. re-format ipod
    2. get in car for a long ride with the family and plug in ipod (i was the passenger). both units showed their precious little error signals.
    3. re-set ipod by pressing MENU and SELECT at the same time
    4. run diagnostic test by pressing REWIND and SELECT at the same time
    5. gaze unbelievingly at the ipod screen which now says ALPINE and i suddenly have a usb connection with my ipod and the alpine unit

i'm flummoxed as to why this happens with amazing regularity and why every time i get it working again, it is a different procedure, but the joy when it happens is delightful.

So u have the problem fixed now? sounds like the Ipod needs a Firmware update, go to the Apple support web site and download the latest firmware, it should correct this issue, u can also check for other owners who may have had a similar problem in the owner problems and fixes database.

This happened to me. What worked was turning off the ipod (not stand by mode). Turn it back on and plug it in, it should work.

The backlight on my ipod nano has stopped, plays music ok but cannot see screen properly, I have tried looked at the memu and turned it too full brightness but still nothing

If you jailbroke it, try restoring it with itunes. If not, it may be one of two things. One your screen could be damaged, or two the LED light has burnt out. You can send it in to get repaired or try reformatting and a hard reset. Hold Menu and select. This might make it work possibly if it's a bug. But most likley a screen problem. I would check online for iPod screen

My ipod middle button doesnt work what can i do help

This usually happens if the membrane of the action button deteriorates and the gold plated contacts between membrane and logic board do no longer establish good contact.
There are specialized online tutorials with iPod Repair instructions that will guide you through the steps of taking it apart and cleaning the contact or replacing the button altogether otherwise you'll have to send it to any third party iPod repair service and they'll replace the membrane for you.

Ipod nano - stopped working - will not come on anymore

Do the 5 R's suggested in the user's manual first. If those fail, then the player has an internal problem and needs to be replaced.

Hitachi living systems model dmp400n

I've got one of these. All worked fine then both my PCs now declare it a corrupt device and refuse to recognise it! Player still works fine, plays, charges, etc but no PC connection.

Tried the reset but appears to do nothing (player just carries on doing what it doing). Is there a procedure for reset that I'm not following correctly?
Help will be much appreciated!

I-Pod wheel broken?

To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including: ipodnano3.jpg ipodclassic.jpg icon_ipod_5g.gif ipodnano2.jpg ipodnano.jpg ipodphoto.gif ipodg4.gif ipodmini.gif
  • iPod nano (3rd generation)
  • iPod classic
  • iPod (5th generation)
  • iPod nano (2nd generation)
  • iPod nano
  • iPod with color display (iPod photo)
  • iPod (Click Wheel)
  • iPod mini
  • iPod mini (2nd generation)
  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

Doesn't reocognize songs and Ipod

Try booting it into disk mode. Do this by clicking on the menu and center buttons at the same time. When you see the apple logo, immediatley hold the centerbutton and play button down at the same time for 10 seconds. The ipod should now say disk mode at the bottom and have a check mark on the screen.

Then connect it to your computer, and format it using your computer. To do that click on my computer, then right click on the drive letter assigned to your ipod (should be like drive I: or H: or similar.. Then scroll down to format and click on format. This should reformat the ipod completely.
Once that is done disconnect your ipod from the computer and reset it again using the center and menu buttons. After it reboots, try reconnecting it to you r computer and see if it is fixed.

Ipod Mini stopped working

Does it work while in a cradle or connected to the pc? If so, the battery is probably toast. I don't know if it is worth the investment to you to just get a new battery or a new iPod.
