I have linskey wrt160 router the router work on my desktop not my laptop it will not connect i am using this router to provide connectivity to wireless laptops. so i got a cable from the switch and assigned a same network address to the router,, but every time laptop connected to router it goes for gateway of router not the default gateway of network i.e default gateway on switch is 192.168.0.1 while the network address of the router is 192.168.0.5,, but wen i give manually it takes the .1 gateway and then i remove it and repaired the connection so it started working properly - but the thing is i want to avoid this everyday practice

Try this one, enable automatic addressing in the router from switch or modem and also enable dhcp server in router.

I've only done some minor networking, and I'm not clear on what your question is.  From my experience, your gateway on your laptop needs to be set to the IP address of whatever network switch/router it is directly connecting to...in other words, if your are connecting wirelessly to the router, the gateway will be the router's IP; if you are connecting to the switch, it will be the switch's IP.

Please check your DHCP settings in the router and make sure that they are set according to how you want it configured.

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I have a cisco WRT160 router and have lost wireless to laptop

Change all the wireless settings of the router.
Change the SSID ( network name ). change the SSID something new that you never tried before. change the security to WPA personal.
change the channel to 6.
make sure the wireless MAC filter is disabled.
under advanced wireless settings change the beacon interval to 75.

Now on your computer try to connect to the new network name.

see if that works.
If that doesn't work then try to upgrade the firmware./

Computer repair tech said Linskey wireless caused internet prob

If you are using DSL as your internet connection there is a timeout period that could be setup in the linksys.

In order to change this you need to log into your router and on check on the setup page. You see the timeout option.

Check with your linksys manual for detailed instructions for logging into the unit. If you dont have it, you can always get it from their website.

I have linskey wrt160 router the router work on my desktop not my laptop it will not connect

I have heard alot of people having this type of problem. The best would be to upgrade your firmware to another firmware such as

dd-wrt and tomato

I prefer you choose DD-WRT just go to www.dd-wrt.com and click on supported devices and just type in the last 3 digits of your router then download the firmware depending on the type of your specification. Then on the wireless make sure you put the Wireless Network Mode on Mixed.

If you need more setting please let me know i will be able to assist you much better on this..

Thanks

Inspiron 6400 wirless connection

HI
If the browser shows working offline and wireless is connected fine then it could be an issue where work offline is checked in the browser.
In internet explorer 6 its found on File in the menu, if work offline is already checked, check it again to remove the check mark and then try, if its internet explorer 7 its found on tools, the same steps and in firefox under file,
Also try this step as well, if its internet explorer go to tools-internet options-and in internet options-go to connections tab-there is dial up and networking box-remove the dial up connections from the box-and check the one never dial a connection

also check the firewalls and antivirus programs, post your results.

thank you

You may need to temporarily wire the laptop to the router.

who is your internet service provider and what is the brand or model no. of your modem?
What is the operating system of your laptop?

I can give you the steps on how you can configure the router for internet and after that i can give you the steps on how to setup the wireless on the router.

Have you activated SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Security? If they are not activated, there is the real possibility you won't connect. Happened to me just tonight and discovered them all unchecked. Reactivated all 3 and voila.... it worked!

I have a new modem: model speedstream 5200, now I can't connect my router: Linskeys model BEFSR41

Your router and DSL modem probably both are set to the same IP address:
192.168.1.1

Change one of them to 192.168.1.2(I'm suggesting the Linksys)
and it should fix the problem and have them both working again.
