Question about Sony KP-43HT20 43" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Picture stretching with Red, Green, and Blue Image Overlays

Hi. A friend recently gave me this TV as they know I am thinking about getting into TV repair and I really want to fix it. It powers on fine and there are a couple problems with the way the picture displays.

The first problem I need to fix is image stretching. The best way i can describe it is to say that neither the top nor bottom of the screen travel in a straight horizontal line. The top of the picture appears to be pinned fine in the corners, but curves downward toward the middle. I guess to provide some imagery as to what I mean, the picture has the appearance of a cardboard box with weight on top that begins sag in the middle. Does anyone know what the problem is or how can i fix it? How much would it cost?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Assuming that you have adjusted the convergence and this had no effect. you might have some blown convergence chips and/or resistors. these make the 3 color line up with each other.. my 55 in phillips did the same thing and the more i used it the worst it got. first it was the blue and the red and finally the green., replaced chips and resistors and the problem went away... good luck.. a lot of soldering involved. but the chips are only like 11.00 each and the resistors are like ten for all three.

Signals to the tv from other sources and the image is P and G

Soon as though you have your wiring mixed up. Those leads, colors you describe are for Compnent Video signal....Red Green Blue. Now  the Others  are for Audio Visual signal , Yellow, Red, White... They are NOT compatable. IE: You cannot mix them. Check in your manual as to what  types of lead is needed how to wire it up..

53 inch projection tv...seems like the color red and color blue have shifted giving me a picture with red and blue shadows

For CRT projection TV's, this indicates that the Green picture tube is burned (warn out). The less green that strikes the screen, the more redish the image will look. You will need to find an old school TV repair shop that knows how to replace picture tubes.
In the case of a DLP style TV, the color wheel needs replacing.

Picture is red

If you are running component video, make sure the blue is plugged in and in the right spot. Component video works like this: the green is a black and white image, the red and blue are cover overlays to make the image display properly. So if everything looks plugged in right, then try plugging in a composite video (Yellow) or S-video cable switching to the appropriate input, and see if the image is still red. If so, go to the set up and set the set to factory defaults, and see if that fixes the color issue, It's possible that the color settings on the TV are messed up, with the S-video plugged in go through the set up menu and see if you can correct the color issue IF THE IMAGE IS STILL RED WITH THE S-VIDEO OR COMPOSITE VIDEO, otherwise the issue is a problem with the component video cable.

Only red tube shows picture, but green & blue are on, just no pic

More likely the problem is the blue and green fluid in the tubes is so cloudy that its distorting the image. Get a fluid kit from www.tvrepairkits.com

PT-L735 U projectors. Green screen and stretched

The green is the result of the blue device failing. Happens about 4000 hours or so. LCDs can't handle the heat. Check the scaling of the image of the second projector. 16x9 vs 4x3.

good luck
