Question about Dell Photo 964 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Dell 964 scanner

I'm trying to use the scanner for the first time, and after waiting for it to go through the "downloading scan applications list from your computer. please wait", I then chose scan to file. Next, I hit the center button (checkmark) to preview scan. Scan mode started, the picture was scanned and I can see it on the preview screen. But then when I hit the green "start" button it doesn't do anything. How do I get it to actually scan and save the file? and where will the file be saved? I am trying to scan and after hitting scan to clipboard where does it go? Please say the steps toscan for the first time????

SOURCE: Dell 964 scanner

I ahve the Dell All-in-One Photo 964 Printer. The software says it can't communicate with computer. But faxes and scans can be done manually on printer, the software is needed to drop scans into e-mail, files etc. It worked perfectly fine when I had Windows XP, I now have Windows Vista. I have the same problem above also when using it manually.

First do your scan on Dell 964 scanner &printer. Scan to clipborad. You hear it scan but nothing happens on your computer. Go to control panel - scanners and cameras - scan profiles - find the document you have scanned, select it and click edit - click preview - in the left corner you will see in blue "How to scan a picture" click that, it will lead you to Windows Photo Gallery - there click on file and import from scanner of camera - it will scan there and your scanned pics will be in your picture folder :) Took me a while to figure it out :)
You can avoid all this and go directly to Windows Photo Gallery :)

I recommend that you install a good anti - Virus application and scan your computer.

For the time being you can use Malwarebytes. It works good for these Trojans. Please install it and then scan the computer. It would be better if you scan the computer in safe mode.

Additionally also scan the computer with Eset Online Scanner.

Go Eset web page to run an online scanner from ESET.
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • click on the Run ESET Online Scanner button
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the add/on to be installed
    • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • wait for the virus definitions to be downloaded
  • Wait for the scan to finish
When the scan is complete
  • If no threats were found
    • put a checkmark in "Uninstall application on close"
    • close program
    • report to me that nothing was found
  • If threats were found
    • click on "list of threats found"
    • click on "export to text file" and save it as ESET SCAN and save to the desktop
    • Click on back
    • put a checkmark in "Uninstall application on close"
    • click on finish
    • close program

I put a document under the lid and press the 'check' button and after 30 seconds of waiting , i get the response 'cannot find application'.


I've had the same problem with my Lexmark. You have to load the CD that came with the printer to get the Lexmark Imaging Studio. Then, when you request the scan from the scanner, it downloads the "Application List", which it requires to scan (just the way it was engineered). Sometimes the Application List will download the first time, but I've had to turn the printer off and on and try it 3 times before it downloaded properly. It's kind of a flakey system, compared to some, but works good once you get it going. Once you scan, the program will come up to show it, and from that point on you will be able to subsequently scan from the program screen.

the reason why the printer is giving you that error msg is because the all in one center is not communicating properly with the programs on your computer to your printer.

try to scan directly to your computer using the all in one center instead.

OCR application error with the Dell ALL in ONE


OCR is a software provided by Dell to convert a scanned document to editable text(word) document. If you scan without OCR software, printer will scan it as a Picture and you can not edit it.

Now here is your answer.
When you install Printer CD, it also install OCR software (Abbyy Fine reader) along with it.
You might have uninstalled the printer drivers and reinstalled them by downloading it from Dell support site.
I must tell you that Downloaded drivers from Dell site DOES NOT contain OCR software.

Solution:
1. You can download free trial version(15 days) from Abbyy.com
Click here to download

2. If any of your friend or relative have printer listed below then you can use the same CD to install the OCR software.
List: Dell 924, Dell 926, Dell 928, Dell 944, Dell 946, Dell 948, Dell 964, Dell 966, Dell 968.

location on Disc:
D:\OCR\setup.exe

3. You can scan using MS Paint.
Click on Start > All Programms > Acccessories > Paint
Click on "File" on Top left corner.
Click on "From scanners and cameras"
Click on "Scan"

It should be able to scan.

4. If you want to use Dell All In One Center.
You can disable OCR option for scanning and it will scan as an image.

Open Dell All in one center.
Click on Advanced scan options Under scan,
Uncheck "Use OCR software".
Click OK and try to scan again using Dell All In One center or using the printer operator panel.
