Question about RPM Vox 750GB 3.5in USB 2.0 & eSATA External 7200rpm - EXSA-35C-750G5K 750 GB Hard Drive
Bought a vox v1 500GB external hard drive and when i plug it into my MacBook Pro it does not show up. Company gave me all these instructions for Windows but says it's compatible with Mac OS Aight, so I've got the Vox 500GB External Hard Drive, and it's worked fine...until just recently, when it won't respond to being plugged in. I am on a PC, and it acknowledges the device with a tone when plugged in, it just doesn't show up anywhere on my computer. Any help as to what I should do is much appreciated. Thanks
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

It needs to be formatted for macs.
I had this problem and with mine as well. (VOX is a horrible company)
One of these two processes should work but I forgot which I did.
Go to spotlight and search for disk utility. If the drive shows up on the left you can click on it then. Click the erase tab. select mac formatting and then click erase.
If it does not show up when you do this you will need to do the same process on a PC.

A screeching noise is usually related to power issues with the drive. It could be very simple to recover the drive or cost anywhere between 500-2,700.
As far as end user things to try...there isn't much you can or SHOULD try.
The one thing that you should try is removing the drive from the enclosure and connect it to a computer or install the drive in another enclosure.
If you're not good with computers then I imagine just taking the drive over to a local computer repair shop would be the next easy thing to do. If I was a tech there I would just plug the drive in and see if the drive appears. Takes only 5 minutes so hopefully they won't charge you to check it.
Hope this info helps, if you have any more questions please ask. I specialize in Data Recovery.
