both lights come on and burn solid.

When I hit reset in the advanced menu, they go out and then come back on. I am also not able to reset the filter timer. The projector is 4 years old. I bought it used to replace one that was stolen

The Bulb came with the projector, so I am assuming it is the correct one, however, I could be wrong.

OK, where did you buy the bulb? Are you 100% sure this is the correct bulb for your projector?

How old is the projector? Just because you have a new lamp and you blew out all the dust does not mean everything is perfect. Fans usually collect dust on there shaft and can not be cleaned with and air gun. They might need to be replaced....

OK, that explains it. The bulb you have installed in the projector might be the original bulb that came with the projecoter when it was new. Just becuase it states 334 hours does not mean it is new. In fact, you could have a original bulb with 3000 hrs and reset the hour timer on the projector, which means your 3000 hour bulb might have 3334 hours on it because the person who owned it before you, reset the hour timer.. Best bet, buy a new bulb and reset the hour meter and see what happens. If you have the same problem, then your ballest might needs to be replace which is rare...

Check if there is a cooling fan. Is it rotating?
It is also possible that the filter is dusty and needs to be cleaned/replaced.
(all projectors have a cooling fan and a filter to prevent dust from reaching the lamp. A faulty fan or a reduced air flow may cause an overheat problem)

Viewsonic PJ556d shuts down after 30-60 seconds

My solution sounds dumb, I had the same issue. Took the lamp cover off the bottom. The screws were loose holding in the lamp. Maybe they heat and expand and eventually work their way out and the lamp doesn't make good contact. Just tightened mine up, the unit would power off after 45 minutes prior. Been on now for 5 hours, no trouble.
