It could be that your gas connection has a blockage that is preventing adequate fuel for from getting to the heater. If that is not the case, try consulting your owners manual for these pool heaters. There is an online copy at the link below.

I called 1-908-355-7995 and a tech had me check voltage at red and white wires on control module, it will be at 120v when unit fires, if voltage drops after initial start up it is the air pressure switch, or hose to air pressure switch, my problem was the hose had a pinhole in it,I cut off the bad part, reinstalled hose, and it runs fine. Good luck.

I have a Hayward H400 that shuts off at 88 degrees. What could this be?

Is this heater standalone, or is it hooked up to an external controller? If it is standalone, it sounds like you need a water temp sensor for the heater. If its hooked up to an external controller, you likely need a 10k temp sensor. What error code does the heater display when it shuts down? And what temperature are you able to read on the heater and/or external controller?

Sounds like it is cycling on high limit; causes are related to water flow through the heat exchanger or a faulty high limit(doubtful given the heater cycles back on). Check the internal bypass for obstructions; has anyone worked on it recently? There are usually two high limit switches with different trip temperatures; installing the wrong one could also be the culprit. Does the heater "bang" before it goes off (a sign that the water is boiling inside the tube bundle)?

Hayward H400 Pool heater will not stay lit

"IF" - Hayward Pool Heater Fails to Ignite: the most common reason for this problem is insufficient gas supply. The Hayward heater LED display will show a diagnostic fault code of "IF" which stands for Ignition Failure. Undetected gas pressure problems if not investigated properly may result in unnecessary replacement and servicing of your Hayward Pool Heater.

if means ignition failure check that gas is on, check for fauilty igniter wiring or connections, inspect gas valve wiring measure voltage across gas valve during trial to ignition if 24 volt replace gas valve if no 24 volt replace control module
