I went to the Hughes web site to check out the modem. They say it is also a router. I think you will have to disable the router abilities of your WNDR 3300 Net Gear Router.

Get into the Netgear setup by loging on to it.In its WAN setup select Static IP Address and set the Static IP Address to the same as the hughes modem, except for the last number which should be about 50 greater. IE: Hughes 192.168.12.1 and Netgear 192.168.12.55.

In the DHCP setup, disable the DHCP Server

In the Wireless setup, Give your network a name is SSID. You should also set up security to keep others off you internet connection with a WEP key.

I hope this helps.

Actually, I think you don't need a router, but if you want to go wireless, it may be the simplest solution. If you want to attach other computers by Cat 5 networking, you could get a network switch hub instead of the router. Then the routing duties would be handled by your modem. You should also check with Hughes about this too, just to make sure I understood the comments in their advertising correctly.

Are you using wire networking or wireless?

  • John Moore Jun 02, 2009

I do not know why your internet is slow and slugish.

According to the picture, the HN9000 has only one network connection and no wireless. To be able to hook up a wired desktop and two wireless notebooks, you will need a wireless access point or hub. The access point will plug into the network connection on the HN 9000 and the desktop will plug into the access point. With the desktop you can set up your wireless with security for your notebooks. The wireless router when dissabled as a router then becomes a wireless access point. I hope this helps. Sure gets compilcated, the more stuff we get!

Attach a computer to the router with a network cable to maintain a good connection. From the router manual, type in the IP address of the router into your web browser. When the login window displays, type in the user name and password from the router manual.

On the wireless page, Select "Wireless ON". Give your network a name in the SSID area. In security, select the type of security you want, the type of encryption, they KEY type and then a KEY. Write down the KEY, you'll need it to get onto your network. Then click apply.

On the WAN page, select "Static IP Address and type in the address assigned by your ISP. Click apply.

On the DHCP page, disable the DHCP server and apply. Then you can close your web browser.

On a wireless computer, with wireless turned on, there should be an icon in the system tray in the lower right of the screen for your wireless connection. Double click it or right click and choose "View Wireless Connections". In the next window you will see all the routers that you can receive. Pick the on that matches your SSID and click connect at the bottom of the window. A smaller window will pop up where you will type in your KEY twice. The window will disappear and the previous window will say connecting.

Once it says connected, You should be able to get on the internet wirelessly. You will have to do this to any other computer that you want wireless on the internet. I hope this is detailed enough to help you.

My question is how do I reset the admin password on a Net Gear WNDR 3300 wireless router..

Most home wireless routers have a reset in the back. Look for a small pin hole, and hold it in with a paperclip till it cycles. This will clear all custom settings.

Are you trying to connect the laptops via wireless? Is that where you are seeing 75 mbps? I am assuming you are, and 75 mbps is really not how fast your internet connection is. Rather, that is how fast you are transferring data from your laptop to the wireless router and back. Generally speaking, this should be a way faster connection than your internet is running at. Chances are your internet connection speed is 10 to 20 mbps, which is good and fast.

It is easy to get the two confused, but basically a wireless connection of 75 mbps is an uber fast connection to your wireless router, and only if your actual internet connection was faster than that 75 mbps would you see any slowness due to that.

Wireless N routers are capable of delivering up to 100 mbps connection speeds, but again that is only from your device to the router. The router then goes to your modem and out through the internet. Chances are that connection is not 100 mbps because of interference, which can be walls, other wireless devices, etc.

One way to test your actual internet connection speed is to go to www.speedtest.net and click on one of the links on the map. This will tell you how many mbps you get to the internet.

Where to get the smart wizard installation assistant disk for netgear n router wndr 3300. I have tried the manual but it is not working

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

NetWave Base G4 router "goes to sleep"

well one thing if your router uses the same IP address as your hughes net then they will interfere with each other. hook your router to your pc and leave the hughes modem out of the equation then go to command prompt on your pc and type in ipconfig that will tell you what ip address your router is using that way you can get into the settings of the router and change whatever you need to change.....I would just set it back to default and make sure the ip address is not 192.168.0.1 because that is the dynamic ip for hughes

Broadband router

You need to plug your blue cable back into your laptop and the other end needs to go into your hughes modem, or you could leave the end that is plugged into your hughes modem and put the end that is now in the desktop modem into your laptop instead. To have the desktop on the internet you have to remove the end in the laptop and put it into the desktop modem.

The blue cable is spare unless you have any extra sockets that will accommodate it in your hughes modem and have both laptop and desktop connected to it.
