Seagate external hard drive problem

My external hard drive is not recognized , it was before but not it is not, it keeps saying a device is unknown, i tried to restore but it did not work My Seagate FreeAgent Go 250gb portable hard drive isn't recognized anymore. I tried to disconnect and reconnect, tried to connect a flash usb drive, and different cable and nothing works. I also tried to connect it through other computers and still nothing. All the hard drive does is make the "I'm working" sound and light up but it doesn't show up at all in computer or the computer won't even make the connected sound. when it stopped working was when I tried to run a program imgburn and it said the program wasn't responding and then I closed it then ran it again and then I went to my folder on the hard drive clicked so I can burn and it said that it was unavailable. Then I disconnected the hard drive "safely" then connected again then it didn't show up. Did I do something wrong or is it just a ironic? or is it dead? :(

I have the same problem with a 500GB HD by the same maker. Fortunately mine started throwing "delayed write failed" errors regarding the MFT. I had enough time to save my data. Your event log should say something to point you in the right direction. Make sure your pc is up to date with the latest service pack too and start looking for a new External HD. Tiger Direct has great deals. I got a 1TB for about $120 Good Luck!

Not a DIY task. You need a professional with data recovery skills. There are few good ones around.

How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software: http://www.icare-recovery.com/seagate-recovery/seagate-external-cannot-be-recognized.html

My seagate 500gb external hdd recognize in device manager.

I would get a bootable linux distro and boot up and use the partion manager there. (knoppix) If that does not work I would get the factory diagnostic tool from seagate and if it gave errors return it for warrenty or if not under warrenty least you will know there is something funny with the hardware.

My external hard drive is unreadable

Does you drive make any sounds like these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it. If not - try to remove the drive from USB casing and connect it directly to your PC or put into another USB enclosure. This should help if the problem is with the enclosure itself and not with the drive.

Seagate external hard drive problem

Hello, Did you try to use this drive on another computer? Did you have the same problem? Did you try using a different cable? I would try these things first in order to determine if the problem is with the drive or with the computer. Good Luck! Dr. Know
