Found that the refrigerator side by side would turn on, fan etc. Then the compressor hum would begin followed by a click(sounds like a contact click) which would stop the compressor start operation. The compressor start up buz would begin until a click would stop the function.
The problem is getting progressively worse -
Now when I plug the refrigerator in there is light but - no motor hum or fan function.
"What is going on!" My unit is only three years old!
It looks like the Capacitor Start Relay is failing. It is located either on the starter Relay or mounted on the side of the compressor compartment. It sould have two wires on it, one orange and the other probably white.

check to make sure compressor is running may be something simple like the relay on compressor... also make sure there is no frost build up on back wall of freezer as this would be a defrost issue and will frost up enough that it cannot move air across coil to cool....
repost with any questions....good luck to you...
First try a new water filter. If doesn't help, this is often caused by a piercing type saddle valve used to tap into water supply. Try turning it all the way off and on again. If dosn't help, you should replace with a drill type saddle valve. Also try to use copper for water line to unit.
How to check
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper)
between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through
it.There is a flap you adjust with the
fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer
are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of
cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In
most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board.
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.
You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks
and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace
the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the
timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.
Your fan in the freezer is wearing out. When your food in the freezer
is blocking the air, the motor is working too hard. After years of
using, it needs to be replaced. Get a repair man in to replace with a
new parts. My Fridge/Freezer was totally broken and I found this out
because the ice was melting. It got fixed and now no problem.
We had the same problem and I AM NOT a repairman. I found that with a lot of freezer door opening, the rubber fill tube, which fills the ice maker tray, had frozen up inside the tube. I had already replaced the ice maker, and still no ice. I am sure a repair person will shudder, but I simple put a Phillips screwdriver up the tube and found the ice was not allowing the tube to refill the tray. CAREFULLY, use the tip of the screwdriver to dislodge the ice and clear the tube. These units do not cool or freeze quickly, therefore keep the doors closed as much as possible and don't let kids stand with the door open while they gaze into the depths while making their decision.
