A while ago my computer had a meltdown and had to have all the software re-installed. The computer is a Dell Dimension 9150 with a MMS 5650 surround sound speaker system. Since all the software was reinstalled the sound quality is really bad and it's not surround anymore - just all speakers working equally. I don't think the program that used to be there for adjusting the sound output was reinstalled and it doesn't appear to be on any of the system disks. I think it was a Sigmatel program and I've tried downloading a couple of different drivers based on what I've read on some forums, but they are apparently not compatible with this system. I can't stand the music sounding so bad!!! Help please. Thanks Jeremy

To get best quality sound you don't need software but a good audio output. The sound quality of digital audio files is excellent. your cheapest option might be a good Bluetooth speaker (30 USD), you need a USB Bluetooth card but they are dirt cheap. Most expensive option is to connect output to a stereo amplifier with professonal speakers. I have thissolution and sounds great.
Normally the sound on the Vostro is lower than the Inspiron series as this is an executive office laptop.
All what can be done is you can download WINAMP and use to increase the equaliser /volume still further.
Also an active power speaker can be connected to the earphone socket to improve the volume to your desired level.
Many laptops have very small tinny sounding speakers built into them. If you wish to get better sound you can hook it up to a set of external speakers through the headphone port (or line out if it has it). You may also be able to get a set of USB powered external laptop speakers for your laptop.
You can check that there isn't dirt covering or stuck in the speaker grill, and that you don't have the volume too loud that it's overpowering the speakers.
if the pc runs windows vista they won't work in less they have a power but if the pc runs windows xp try to install the drivers for the speakers here is the download link http://www.user-guides.co.uk/download/free/freedrivers/free-drivers-installing-dell-a215-speakers.html
That was indeed the sound module. I spent hours trying to find a replacement for my Dell TV. There was one on eBay for over $100.00, I decided to remove my speakers and install a low cost sound bar from Radio Shack. Easy to install and sounds fine. Several techs told me those boards are a problem along with every other board in those sets and since the Dell is low quality to begin with, I wouldn't spend the money. Go with the sound bar and buy a real TV next time. I'll go Samsung or Sony when mine finally dies for good.
Sound quality depend upon the format of the songs.Because lots of songs are compressed by software.Your laptop is ok. or set the equlizer of the song or install VLC player for increasing sound quality.
It's because when you cleared your computer you deleted your sound drivers. You need to reinstall them in order to hear anything. I suggest you try searching for sound drivers on Google. They usually come with an 'installation wizard' so they're quick and easy to install. I'm not sure which ones are "the best" but I use Realtek and it gives me good quality sound.
