Try this--my husband took some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab opened up the game cube and cleaned the small laser part. Helped mine for the time--then again I am a smoker so I have to do that more often then most.

Ps3 not spinning disc, replaced spindle motor, did not fix. Please help

Hi there, this is because the actual laser needs replacing, not the disc spinner motor. With the PS3 the laser reads the disc data type, whether it be a DVD, game , audio cd or blu ray movie. It then spins the disc up to the required read speed. When the laser is faulty is cannot read the disc type so will not spin at all.

Hope this helps

System unable to read disc.

Try cleaning the lens with an approved laser lens cleaner.
Check to see if you can hear the disc being spun. If not, the spindle motor is bad.If your discs are spinning but aren't being read, your laser could be damaged. Contact Nintendo for service, unless you're comfortable replacing the laser yourself. Buy one online and get it replaced.
Thank you!

Open tray error and thensome.

Unreadable disc errors or open tray errors are commonly fixed by pot calibration or laser assembly replacement. Pot calibration is the cheaper of the two, and if it fails and burns out the laser, well, replacing the laser would be the next step anyway.

You shouldn't calibrate the pot without an ohms reader simply because you can burn out the laser, but you CAN wing it. I'd advise doing some searching on DVD Drive pot calibration for the Xbox 360, simply because I don't know which drive you have so I can't help identify anything for you.

I will say you have to disassemble it down until you see the motherboard, take out the DVD drive, open it up, and then calibrate the pot with a very small screwdriver. The location of the pot depends on your drive. If this fails, then buy a new laser assembly and replace it in the drive.

p.s. pot calibration is fancy terminology. There are basically 2 "screws" inside the drive, 1 pot is the DVD/games, and the other is CD. You'll want to very slightly tweak the DVD/games pot until it works, testing with each tweak. You barely need to adjust this "screw" for a significant change to happen. Also, always test with a DVD and then a game. It will read a DVD before a game.

Horrible grinding/buzzing noise when spinning game discs and does't read them 50% of the time, but plays dvd movies fine with no buzzing/grinding noise no red lights at any time

It the cd drive hub or the spindle motor pad is dirty.
It isn't clamping the disk firmly so when the drive
speeds up or stops abruptly the disc continues
to spin , it shouldn't cause surface damage to
the cd but it sounds like hell .

If you disassemble the xbox and the cd rom
drive ,clean the the hub and spindle motors pad
this should remedy the noise problem.

Also there is the possibility that
the hub magnet came loose this
would decress the clamping force
of the hub, than you would need to
snap the round magnet in the Hub
back in to place . if get there
let me know and ill explain further

if you have any questions just comment and ill respond

Ps2 slim spindle dont spin

If your spindle has stopped spinning, it will most likely be 1 of 2 problems. Either your spindle motor has burnt up, or even though it is very unlike, a lead wire that supplies the power to the spindle has became disconnected. Now, if the case it the burnt up spindle motor, there are hundreds of motors for every kind of PS on, of course, E-Bay. If the problem is for some reason, a soldered wire has broken from the motor. It is very simple to re-attach the lead with a quick touch from a soldering iron. I hope this has helped.

I put a brand new game and i wont play i says disc read error

If your other games still work, take the new one back to the store you purchased it from. If your other games are giving you problems then you probably have a laser problem. If you can hear the disc spin, you generally just need to clean the laser lens within the drive. If the disc doesn't even spin, you either have a completely dead laser unit, or a bad spindle motor. Lets just hope it's the laser unit, they only cost like 50 bucks, I don't even know where you could get a new spindle motor. Best of luck

Disc doesnt spin , the lens dont move up and down , only lights red

Sounds like a motor issue, not a laser issue.

That link is for a new snake motor which moves the laser back and forth

This link is for a new spindle motor.

Play station 2 won't read silver disc only reads blue disc

Hi Elvis,

The Blue back disc is CD format. The DVD laser circuit is giving you trouble. You can adjust the DVD pot some on the back of the Laser. Turn it about 3 degrees clockwise. Then put it the laser back in. Test the PS2 with no cover on, and use the white round disc from the laser drive cover to clamp a disc onto the spindle. Test DVD and PS2 Games that do not have Blue back.
