Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

2 Answers

Found oil and grease under washing machine. Makes loud noise when on spin cycle.

When I moved my washing machine out to clean under it, I found what appeared to be oil and black grease. The oil was dry and the size was about 8"x12" (oval). The grease was about 3"x4". It's also been making a lot of noise when it's going through a spin cycle. With the oil and grease leak, it doesn't sound to promising. I'm hoping I can repair it myself. I pretty handy, besides, I can't afford a new one. Rosanne

The oil and grease is probably from the transmission and yes you might be able to replace it. Get your make andmodel number and go to www.repairclinic.com. It is a very good site for finding pictures and parts of appliances. The parts are as cheap as you will find them. If the oil/grease is from the transmission, it will eventually fail. Fix it now or fix it later. Your choice.

What causes our front loading washer to make exceeding loud noise when it enters a spin?

Sounds like a bearing seal is going. The seal has ruptured and grease of seeping out. The loud noise is the bearings rubbing against each other without adequate grease to reduce the friction. Failure will come soon if it is not fixed. The vibration is coming from the friction and possibly damaged ball bearings .

My Haier washing Machine vibrates and makes a very loud vibration noise.

Have you noticed any grease or oil stains on clothes coming out of the washing machine?

In my personal experience, heavy vibration and loud noise during spin cycles has been caused by the bearing being broken and further damage caused by running on a broken bearing. If that is the case it is a costly repair, I had to get a new washing machine.

Washing machines are simple to take a part to a small extent, just remember in what order you took things off if you decide to investigate further your self.

There is grease coming from uner the washing machine and it makes a loud noise when it is spinning? Sometimes the washing machine will get hung up on the spin cycle?

Oil usually from the leaking transmission. a clutch not engaging might make a noise but u will get no real spin and clothes remain wet? if it was bad motor coupler if u have direct drive u would also have no spin or wash cycle. I suspect a bearing prob withing the tranny SORRYYYYYYYY :(

Loud Noise on Spin Cycle

It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

Whirlpool clean touch top loading washer suddenly makes very loud noise. Pump works but agitator and drum won't spin. Also seems like oil leaked out of motor. I'm thinking motor seized.

If you found oil underneath it, then you have a broken transmission case, or a bad seal. The electric motor does not contain oil. This should be something that yuo can confirm visually.

Rattling noise during spin cycle

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
