Question about Kenmore 19.7 cu. ft. / 558 liter Chest Freezer 13009
My freezer is a kenmore model 253.9135311 built in 1994. This winter while heavily frosted it stopped cooling. I had to stuff my food in a snowbank and then in a friend's freezer. The light goes on but the compressor gives no sign of life. I figure it is the conpressor that is gone and nothing can be done but replace it at high cost to Sears repair. Maybe there is another way but I don't know it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Kenmore 16 Model 253 freezer stored for 7 years. Runs quiet just like before but will not get cold. Took the cover off and the compressor is running hot.
If the freezer was stored and not running for 7 years it may have lost coolant. Since the compressor is running recharging the coolant may fix the problem. Hot compressor might indicate low coolant since its motor is immersed in it.
