Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

Washer is over filling.

I have a Maytag Atlantis washing machine and my problem is that when i put it into any cycle that needs water the tank just keeps filling. It eventually overfows and leaks all over the floor. Is there a pump i need to clean or a relay that shuts the water off when it gets to a certain level? I have a Maytag A482 top loading washer. Just recently the water does not stop when washer clothes on any cycle or on any water level. It fills and overflows. The water does stop when I push the timer off. I have the washer apart have pulled off the hose from the water level vacuum and have blown into it with easy air flow and no crackes in the tubing. Thoughts to the problem? Thanks

AV,

Yup! I know what's going on (the tip off was when you said, "The water does stop when I push the timer off"). See? the timer, as I'm sure you know, supplies or "directs" power to each component in the washer... kinda like a conductor does an orchestra. When you push the timer knob to "Off", you shut down the symphony thereby removing power from all of the components. Make sense?

When you set the water level and pull the knob, the level switch tells the timer that the tub is empty and request water. The timer complies and sends power to the water valve. When the water level is "satisfied", the level switch tells the timer to remove power from the valve and start the "agitation" cycle.

Here's what's happening, the level switch isn't talking to the timer. I think the part number is 22002705, but I'm not sure because I don't have the full model number. Call you local appliance retailer and provide them with the full model number to be sure, OK? Since you already have the machine apart, it'll be easy to replace...

Oh yeah, here's a picture of it... see if this one matches the one on you machine. This might confirm the part number.

And another thing, now that you've experienced a washer flood (ain't it fun?), you might want to consider getting yourself one of these. They're super easy to install and it'll provide that extra bit of insurance against this happening to you again.

Don't forget to rate this solution. And thanks for using FixYa!

Thank you in advance for your help, The washer will not adgitate. It will spin out and clear any water in machine. thought it was the belts, you can smell burning if you leave it go through the full cycle. I tried new belts and that didn't work. I could pry on the back of the pully and it would adgitate. Could I have a problem with a take-up ? Could it be the transmission?

Won't start

if it filled proplerly and won't start now, it sounds like the door switch is broken, there could be something wrong with the rest of the electrical systems, however i would suggest the switch first. If there is a lot of noise like its trying to run, then its probably your transmission.

Washer is over filling.

Hi, Does water enter the machine when there timer is off or even if the machine is unplugged? If this is the case, the inlet valve needs replaced. If the water stops when the timer is turned off, there is a problem with the water level switch. Please let me know so that I can assist you further. Thanks

Will not start wash cycle

Sound like the lid switch has went out , you should hear it click when the lid is close to an inch of being closed , they are un-expensive and easy to replace and they go out often from use. Easy to find online with your real model number located under the lid.

The washer with the grind noise is a main bearing going out and may be covered under warr. through maytag.
