Worx WG150 Cordless Grass Trimmer spool nut keeps falling off

Hi, I purchased a Worx WG150 10-Inch 18-Volt Cordless grass trimmer. I charged the battery, read the instructions, assembled the trimmer and as soon as I turned it on, the spool housing dropped off. I removed the spool cap and found a nut that appeared to go on the base screw post. So, I put the spool housing back on and screwed the nut into the base screw post. I turned on the trimmer again...and the spool housing dropped off again!!! I tried several times and can't get the spool housing to stay on. It seems like the screw post is turning in the wrong direction, which loosens the nut. Do you know what the problem might be? Thanks!

Hi, Thank you both for responding so quickly.

Regarding scspriggs' clarification request -- Yes, the trimmer was purchased new. Also, there was nothing in the manual nor on the official Worx web site that identified which direction the motor should spin. I even took the spool housing off and just screwed the nut on the post to see what would fell off. You have validated the fact that the trimmer was assembled incorrectly. I'll be sending the unit back for a new replacement.

Regarding gsken's solution to call the 800# -- that was my first option. However, after being put on hold for a very long period of time and then transferred to several operators who basically didn't think the nut coming off was a problem...I thought I'd try the FixYa web site for a possible solution.

Again, thank you both for your time and helpful responses.

It does sounds like the rotation is loosening the nut.

If this is a new unit, I would return it. Since this is a DC motor, if the polarity is reversed in the internal wiring, the motor will spin backwards. It's rare but it could be assembled incorrectly, and it would be very easy to make this mistake in assembly.

Is there some indication of which way the motor should spin so you could compare that with the way it is spinning?

Worx trimmer works for 5 minutes then dies

The battery is dead, Worx contracted with a cheap battery manufacturer, you can buy replacements on ebay, but they will fail quickly too. I recommend getting a new trimmer unless you want to buy new batteries every year.

The line keeps unwinding! The Worx trimmer seems to unwind the line when ever it decides too! What is the problem?

The spool can be defective, but it may be just affected by trash in the spool where it mounts to the machine. Look at this tip. There is a place at the end of it that explains how to clean and lubricate the spool. If you cannot fix the problem with this tip, replacement is probably your best option. Try it first.

Im trying to figure out how to install the safety guard. Can you help me?

On this page you will find a tab for the owners manual. The regular site I use has no Worx machines listed at all. I hope this helps you. The tab for MANUAL is near the middle right of this page. Hope the assembly info you need is there.
