Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a Xerox 8500. The info page it prints when it starts up says it is 8500N, but the unit itself doesnt say N anywhere on it. I would like to be able to automatically print on 2 sides. Can this printer be upgraded to 8500DN? Do I need to purchase new hardware?

I saw a forum that said a config card could be added, but no one seemed to have that working so I wasnt sure that it was possible. Thanks for saving me from buying that config card!

Hi,

These are 2 different models.

8500 series

8500
8500/N

If it's prints with 8500/N, it confirms you have 850/N. Now upgrade to 8500DN is not possible.

You need to purchase a new printer. There are so many kits available but there is nothing to convert 8500/N to 85DN.

If we talk about print on 2 sides automatically, its known as "Duplex Printing".

It's only possible on 8500DN.

On 8500/N, it's possible but manually.

You would find many forums and information that would force you to buy configuration card and so on, but to be honest nothing would work.

I hope this would help you a lot.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Do rate the solution as "Fixya' if 100% satisfied.

Hi there i can no get my Xerox Phaser 8500N to print color what can i do?

Are you using Windows 7? If so, this is a known problem.
The xerox website says to uninstall the printer and reinstall with the correct driver, but this did not work for me.

We have a Xerox Phaser 8500N printer. The yellow is printing out a dingy gold. I hav checked the yellow print blocks and there is plenty.

What it essentially boils down to is that you're not printing enough color. The blocks are melted into a holding bin and will discolor over time. To correct this, you will need to purge the color that is "stale". Go to this link http://www.solid-inks.co.uk/technical_support-phaser_850_860_8200.html?category_id=1 and download the pdf for your color (I would recommend downloading all four to keep on hand). You'll want to open the PDF and print 10 to 20 copies until the bad ink is replaced with fresh ink. You'll notice the color change as the ink is purged.

Phaser 8500 on power up it prints a startup and 89 pages of junk

Hi,

You cannot turn off the start up page on this machine. The special character pages are called a post script error. You could install a PCL driver for the machine or try changing some settings in the Driver to "RAW". Use the link below for any other questions.

Xerox 8500 excessive ink use

Hi,

One of the reasons this could be happening is because you are using non-xerox ink so your print head needs to clean it out much more often. Be careful using other ink as this can destroy the machines printhead which is more expensive then the machine itself to replace. What you could try is installing the new printhead firmware, it might help! Follow the link below and good luck!

Phaser 8500 cleaning page

You can't. Just simply stated. It is the way it's designed.
Per Xerox below

NOTE: The automatic printhead cleaning cycle cannot be disabled.
The printer performs automatic printhead cleaning cycles to remove air bubbles or foreign matter that can cause a printhead jet to malfunction. An automatic printhead cleaning cycle is performed when the printer is first powered ON, or if the ink has cooled to the point that a cleaning cycle is required.
Powering OFF the printer longer than 3 or 4 minutes will also cause the printer to perform a printhead cleaning cycle when the printer is powered back ON, which uses ink. To minimize ink consumption, keep the printer powered ON at all times.

I can't get rid of the margins when i print something

I'm guess you are printing from MS Word? Click File the "Page Setup" Click the layout tab the far right then go to the bottom and click borders and select the NONE option. You should have your borders removed!! =) That is if that is the type of border you are talking about.

Cheers!!
