Caution: A deployed dual stage inflator module will look the same whether one or both stages were used. Always assume a deployed dual stage inflator module has an active stage 2. Improper handling or servicing can activate the inflator module and cause personal injury.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. On the back side of the steering wheel are 3 openings for removing the steering wheel module.
  3. Adjust and install J 44298 into 1 of the holes.
  4. Important: Seat the air bag removal tool all the way in to perform properly.
  5. Pull the handle of the air bag tool away from the instrument panel (I/P) releasing one of the spring loaded fasteners.
  6. Repeat this step for the other 2 fasteners.
  7. Pull the inflatable restraint module gently away from the steering wheel.

How do I remove throttle cable on 2002 dyna super glide


REMOVAL
Loosen the cable adjuster jam nuts, screw the throttle cable adjuster until it is as short as possible, remove the two screws that hold the handlebar housing together to separate the upper and lower housings, unhook the ferrules and cables from the throttle grip and lower housing, remove the air cleaner assembly and disconnect the throttle cables from the carburetor, pull the cable from the housing by placing a drop of oil on the retaining ring that holds the cable in the housing, then firmly pull the bent tubing portion of the cable out of the housing using a rocking motion. The cables can be removed from the carburetor by pulling the outer housing away from plate above the throttle wheel and then with slack in the inner cable twisting the inner cable to allow the swaged end to release from the slot in the throttle wheel and then pull the inner cable out through the mounting plate hole.

If you will reuse the cable wash all components in non-flammable cleaning solvent, carefully blow all parts dry with low pressure compressed air, replace the control cables if frayed, kinked or bent, put one or two drops of oil into the housing of each control cable.

INSTALLATION
Apply a light coating of graphite to the handlebar and to the inside surface of the housings, attach the control cable assemblies to the lower housing, push the silver insert of the throttle cable housing into the hole in front of the tension adjuster screw, push the gold insert of the idle cable housing into the hole at the rear of the tension adjuster screw, install the adjusting screw, spring and friction pad in the lower housing if they were removed, position the throttle grip on the handlebar, place the lower housing on/over the throttle grip, position the ferrules and retaining rings over the cable balls and seat them in the throttle notches, fasten the upper housing to the lower housing using two screws tightened to 35-45 in-lbs (4.0-5.1 Nm), CHECK the throttle cable routing, on FXD, FXDL and FXDX models, the throttle cables are routed between the headlamp bracket and the front fork upper bracket and then under right side of tank to carburetor. On FXDXT models the throttle cables are routed through a wire form that is mounted on the upper fork bracket. On FXDWG models, the throttle cables are routed behind the front fork upper bracket, then under the right side of the fuel tank to the carburetor, install the throttle cables on the carburetor and adjust them at the handlebars and re-install the air cleaner. The throttle cables must be clear of steering stops and not be so tight that the idle speed will be changed when turned from steering stop to steering stop.

Throttle Cable Adjustment
To adjust the throttle cables turn the cable adjusters and jamnuts as short as they will go so that both cables will have zero adjustment at the start of the adjustment procedure. THEN with the front wheel pointing straight ahead turn the throttle grip wide open and hold it there, turn the throttle cable adjuster to lengthen the sleeve until the throttle cam just touches the cam stop. THEN tighten the adjuster jamnut and release the throttle. THEN turn the front wheel full right and turn the idle cable adjuster to lengthen the sleeve until the cable housing just touches the spring in the cable support sleeve. THEN recheck the adjustment by working the throttle grip to be sure the cable returns to idle position when released. If the cable does not return to idle, turn idle adjuster to shorten the sleeve until the correct adjustment is reached and then tighten the jamnut. The throttle control must operate freely without binding.

I have a scwinn lockett 16" girls bike with a lot of issues Brakes dont wok training wheels fall off chain falls off seat moves my 6yr old has only rode this bike 4 times an d I spent lots on...


those things are easy fixes. i'll give you a basic guide:
CHAIN:
1. place the bike upside down and loosen the nuts holding the back wheel in place.
2. position yourself sitting on the floor with the bike between your legs and your two feet pressing against the seat.
3. ensure the chain is in place, and then pull the back wheel towards you (ie. towards the back), hence tightening the chain.
4. while ensuring the wheel is straight, retighten the nuts while holding the wheel in place >easier if someone is helping youBRAKES:
option 1: tighten the cable by looking for the are where it meets the brakes. there should be either a screw or a nut.
option 2. loosen the two brake pads, and bring them closer to the wheel. make sure they aren't rubbing on the rim when riding however. >nb: this is easier to do when the bike is upside downSEAT:
there should be a tightening device located under the seat. simply tighten.
TRAINING WHEELS:
use a wrench to tighten.

How do I get the rear spindle off so I can replace the emergency brake shoes on my 2006 chrysler pacifica?



Adjustment

  1. Place parking brake lever in -full released- position.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. Remove plug in parking brake shoe support to access adjuster star-wheel.
  4. Through the access hole, rotate the adjuster star wheel in the following direction to expand the shoes outward against the drum:
    1. Left brake - Rotate star-wheel toward rear of vehicle.
    2. Right brake - Rotate star-wheel toward front of vehicle.
  5. Using an appropriate tool, turn adjuster star wheel until wheel will not rotate (dead lock).
  6. Back off adjuster six detents (teeth).
  7. Rotate wheel, checking for light drag. If drag is too heavy, continue to back off adjuster one detent at a time until light drag is present. Do not back off star-wheel more than 17 detents from wheel lock.
  8. Install access plug.
  9. Adjust opposite wheel parking brake shoes using same method.
  10. Lower vehicle.
  11. Apply and release parking brake lever once to ensure proper operation of parking brakes.


Removal & Installation NOTE The following procedure may be used to remove shoes on either side of the vehicle.

  1. Lock out automatic adjuster in parking brake lever.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. Access and remove rear hub and bearing.
  4. Remove parking brake cable bolt at knuckle.
  5. Completely back off parking brake shoe adjustment.
  6. Remove parking brake shoe adjuster spring.
  7. Remove shoe adjuster.
  8. Remove upper brake shoe hold-down clip and pin.
  9. Remove lower brake shoe hold-down clip and pin.
  10. Remove upper and lower shoes with return spring from shoe actuator.
  11. Remove return spring from shoes.

To install:
  1. Install return spring between upper and lower shoes.
    NOTE Before installing shoes on actuator, make sure actuator hooked to rear cable is positioned with word -UP- facing outward.
  2. Install upper and lower shoes with return spring on shoe actuator located on parking brake cable.
  3. Install lower brake shoe hold-down pin through rear of support and lower shoe, then install hold-down clip.
  4. Install upper brake shoe hold-down pin through rear of support and upper shoe, then install hold-down clip.
  5. Install shoe adjuster. Place end of adjuster with star wheel upward.
  6. Install parking brake shoe adjuster spring.
  7. Install bolt securing parking brake cable to knuckle and tighten bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  8. Using Brake Shoe Gauge, Special Tool C-3919, or equivalent, measure inside diameter of parking brake drum portion of rotor.
  9. Place Gauge over parking brake shoes at widest point.
  10. Using adjuster star wheel, adjust parking brake shoes until linings on both park brake shoes just touch jaws on gauge. This will give a good preliminary adjustment of parking brake shoes, before a final adjustment is made at end of this procedure.
  11. Install hub and bearing with wheel speed sensor as well as all components necessary to access it.
  12. Lower vehicle.
  13. Unlock automatic adjuster in parking brake lever.
  14. Perform final adjustment of parking brake shoes

  15. Adjustment This vehicle is equipped with permanently sealed rear wheel bearings. There is no periodic lubrication or maintenance recommended for these units.


    Removal & Installation

    1. Raise and support vehicle.
    2. Remove wheel mounting nuts, then tire and wheel assembly.
    3. If equipped with AWD:
      1. Remove cotter pin, nut lock and spring washer from half shaft.
      2. While a helper applies brakes to keep hub from turning, remove hub nut and washer.
    4. Remove brake caliper and rotor from hub and bearing assembly.

    5. Disconnect vehicle wiring harness connector at wheel speed sensor connector.
    6. Unclip wheel speed sensor connector from spare tire mounting support.
    7. Disconnect two sensor cable routing clips on rear suspension crossmember.
    8. Disconnect two sensor cable routing clips along toe link.
    9. Disconnect sensor cable from bracket on brake support.

    10. Completely loosen, but do not remove four bolts fastening hub and bearing in place. Once loosened from threads in hub and bearing, push bolts up against rear of hub and bearing to keep brake support plate in place when hub and bearing is removed.

    11. Pull hub and bearing off knuckle and half shaft (if equipped with AWD), then thread wheel speed sensor cable through hole in brake support plate as it is removed with hub and bearing.

    To install:
    1. Position hub and bearing bolts though rear of knuckle and parking brake support just enough to hold support in place as hub and bearing is installed.
    2. Install hub and bearing by first feeding end of wheel speed sensor cable through hole in bottom of parking brake support. As this is being done, if equipped with AWD, slide hub and bearing onto half shaft. Place hub and bearing through brake support, onto knuckle, lining up mounting bolt holes with bolts and placing wheel speed sensor head at bottom.
    3. Install four bolts fastening hub and bearing in place. Tighten mounting bolts to 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm).
    4. Place wheel speed sensor cable routing grommet into bracket on parking brake support.
    5. Route wheel speed sensor cable along toe link and rear suspension crossmember connecting routing clips where shown.
    1. Connect vehicle wiring harness to wheel speed sensor connector.
    2. Install brake rotor and caliper.
    3. If equipped with AWD:
      1. Install washer and hub nut on end of half shaft.
      2. While a helper applies brakes to keep hub from turning, tighten hub nut to 180 ft. lbs. (244 Nm).
      3. Install spring washer, nut lock and cotter pin on end of half shaft.
    4. Install tire and wheel assembly. Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).

Im pretty sure the handbrake cable on my 2004 Jetta has broken, is this an easy fix or should i consult a mechanic?


here is the procedure from autozone.com. there are no special tools, but you need to be handy. Judge for yourself.


Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and safely support the rear wheels.
  2. On Front Wheel Drive models, remove the heat shield above the exhaust in the center tunnel.
  3. Locate the threaded adjusters. On All Wheel Drive (AWD) models, they are located in the front of the lower control arms, on Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles, they are located in the tunnel on the underbody of the vehicle.
  4. Remove the locking clip between the hex nut and the adjustment housing.
  5. Counter hold the hex nut with a 13mm wrench and thread the adjustment housing to loosen the cable until the adjustment housing is fully loosened, then slide the 2 portions of the cable toward one another.
  6. Remove the lock clip at the brake caliper and remove the cable, taking care to not damage the cable boot.
  7. On Front Wheel Drive models, remove the heat shield above the muffler and push aside.
  8. Remove the cables from the cable brackets. Should the assembly aid fall out it is not necessary to reinstall it.
  9. Using a suitable flat blade screwdriver, remove the cables from the retaining bracket at the under body tunnel where the cables enter the interior of the vehicle.
  10. Remove the rear portion of the center console, then using a suitable flat blade screwdriver, push the cables toward the parking brake lever and press the cable ball end out of the bracket.
  11. From under the vehicle, press the guide sleeve-locking element together and pull the cables out of the guide sleeve.
To install:
  1. Guide the parking brake cables through until the guide sleeve locks into place.
  2. If not previously removed, remove any plastic parts at the hand brake lever adjustment bracket as they are not needed for installation.
  3. Using a No. 2 flat-blade screwdriver, lock the adjustment bracket at the hand brake lever to prevent it from turning.
  4. Insert the cable end ball through the mounting in the adjustment bracket, making sure the cable locks into place in the bracket.
  5. Working under the vehicle, route the cables through their routing brackets and attach them to the brake caliper.
  6. The balance of installation is in reverse order of removal noting the following:
  7. Adjust the parking brake cable and check its operation.
Disc Brakes
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Release the parking brake. It may be necessary to unscrew the adjusting nuts to provide slack in the brake cable.
  3. At each rear wheel brake caliper, remove the spring clip retaining the parking brake cable to the caliper.
  4. Lift the cable from the caliper mount and disengage it from the parking brake lever.
  5. Pull the cables out from under the vehicle.
  6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  7. Adjust the parking brake as described at the beginning of this section.
Drum Brakes
  1. Block the front wheels and release the hand brake.
  2. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  3. Remove the rear brake shoes.
  4. Remove the brake cable assembly from the back plates.
  5. Remove the cable adjusting nuts at the handle and detach the cable guides from the floor pan.
  6. Pull the cables out from under the vehicle.
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the parking brake and road test the vehicle.

2.4L Non-Turbo Engine

Remove or disconnect the following:

Negative battery cable Air cleaner box cover Engine structural collar Starter electrical connectors Starter To install:
  1. Install the starter and torque the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm). Attach the starter electrical connectors.
  2. Install the engine structural collar on models with a automatic transaxle as follows, refer to the illustration for bolt locations:
    1. Place the collar in position and hand tighten the collar to transaxle bolt.
    2. Position the power steering hose support bracket and install the collar to oil pan bolt.
    3. Place the bending strut in place and hand start the bolt.
    4. Install the bolt through the strut and collar and hand tighten.
    5. Place the power steering hose support bracket in position and install and hand tighten the remaining bolts.
    6. Tighten the collar-to-transmission bolts to 75 ft. lbs. (101 Nm).
    7. Install the bolts through the strut and into the block.
    8. Tighten the remaining bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).

  3. Install the engine structural collar on models with a manual transaxle as follows, refer to the illustration for bolt locations:
    1. Place the collar in position and hand tighten the collar to transaxle bolt.
    2. Position the power steering hose support bracket and install the collar to oil pan bolt.
    3. Position the clutch slave cylinder into position and hand start the bolts.
    4. Tighten bolts (1) to 75 ft. lbs. (101 Nm).
    5. Tighten bolts (2 and 5) to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
    6. Tighten bolts (3 and 4) to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  4. Install the air cleaner box cover and connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

How do I change the rear shock on my 1999 Dodge Neon?


  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Unfasten the retainer(s), then remove the hydraulic flex hose bracket from the strut bracket. If equipped with ABS, the wheel speed sensor cable routing clip is also attached to the strut assembly bracket.
  1. Support the rear knuckle, suspension and brake components before removing the clevis bracket-to-knuckle attaching bolts. Do NOT allow the weight of the knuckle and related components hang without support when the strut is removed.


  2. WARNING The knuckle-to-strut attaching bolts are serrated and must not be turned during removal. Remove the nuts while holding the bolts stationary in the knuckle.
  1. Hold the bolt with a wrench, then unfasten the 2 clevis bracket nuts attaching the strut to the knuckle.

  1. Carefully lower the vehicle, then open the trunk. Access to the rear upper strut mount-to-strut tower attaching bolts is through the trunk of the car.
  2. If necessary, remove the carpet from the top of the strut tower. Then, remove the rubber dust shield from the top of the strut tower for easier access to the upper strut nuts.
  1. Loosen, but do not remove the 4 upper strut mounting nuts. Then, while supporting the strut assembly, fully remove the 4 strut mount attaching nuts.
  1. Remove the strut assembly from the knuckle by sliding the knuckle out of the clevis bracket on the strut, then remove it from the vehicle.
Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the vehicle
To install:
  1. Position the strut back into the vehicle with the 4 studs on the strut mount assembly through holes in the strut tower of the vehicle. Install the 4 strut mount-to-body attaching nuts onto the mount studs. Tighten the nuts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  2. Install the dust shield into the opening on top of the strut tower. Install the carpeting back on top of the rear strut tower.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Install the knuckle into the clevis bracket on the strut assembly. Install the 2 clevis bracket-to-knuckle attaching bolts and nuts. Hold the bolts with a wrench while tightening the nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  5. Install the brake hose bracket to the strut bracket and secure with the retaining bolts. If equipped with ABS, the wheel speed sensor cable routing clip is also attached to the strut bracket.
  6. Install the wheel and tire assembly on the vehicle. Tighten the lug nuts evenly, in sequence, to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
  7. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  8. Have the toe checked and adjusted as necessary.

Steering column is becoming loose on 1997 Buick Lesabre. I would like detailed instructions on removing the air bag module and steering wheel enouhg to get to where it needs to be tightened.


Yes there are four bolts halfway down col. this removal procedure may help.REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
  1. Disable SIR System.
  2. Two screws at back of steering wheel.
  3. Position inflator module to gain access to wire connectors. Note wire routing for assembly reference.
  4. Push in and rotate horn contact lead counterclockwise, and remove from the steering column horn tower.
  5. Horn contact lead.
  6. Retainer (CPA) from SIR wiring connector.
  7. SIR wiring connector from inflater module.
  8. On models so equipped, disconnect steering wheel control switch connector.
  9. Inflater module. WARNING: When carrying a live inflator module, make sure bag and trim cover are pointed away from body. Never carry the Inflator module by wires or connector on underside of module. In case of an accidental deployment, bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. When placing a live inflator module on a bench or other surface, always face the bag and trim cover away from surface. Never rest a steering column on the steering wheel with inflator module face down and column vertical. This is necessary so that a free space is provided to allow air bag to expand in the unlikely event of accidental deployment. Otherwise personal injury may result.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
  1. Steering wheel control switch connector it equipped.
  2. Retainer (CPA) to SIR wiring connector.
  3. Route horn contact lead to steering column tower; push lead into horn tower and rotate clockwise to locked position.
  4. Horn ground lead.
  5. SIR connector and retainer (CPA).
  6. Inflator module to steering wheel. Install top surface of module first to ease assembly and fit. Do not pinch any wires.
  7. Two screws through back of steering wheel to inflator module.
    • Tighten screws to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
  1. Enable SIR system
