Question about Panasonic Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Alltel UM175 I have a Alltel UM175 wireless modem .. I just purchased a Netgear 3G Broadband mobile router.. When I connect it .. it says USB device not supported.. On the netgear support page it says it supports the Verizon UM175 wireless modem .. So my question is .. is there any way i can get around this .. or any patch or something I could install to maybe get the router to recognized it .. thanks much Hey, Google is finally pulling this up with a combination of keywords "allte netgear 3g". I did the same combination. Alltel UM175 and the Netgear 3G router, Model MBR624GU. Upgraded to latest firmware to get UM175 support. Per the Netgear support page, it must be a carrier AND modem combination to be supported. Verizon and UM175 is supported, but Alltel and UM175 is supported. Haven't tried to call Tech Support as I'd be very surprised if they go out of their way to troubleshoot this. When you plug in the UM175 modem, it indicates "USB device not supported". Looks like they have the combination ISP+Modem configured into the router firmware itself. I couldn't find the right combination in the web interface to try to manually set. Going to return it and get a CradlePoint MBR1000 instead, which does claim full support for Alltel UM175. Bit more expensive, but I'm out in the sticks, so worth it.

Comment #2, typo above; Alltel and UM175 is not supported per Netgear support page.

You sure didn't get much of an answer here, did you? I'm beginning to wonder about this site.

Why are you trying to connect a 3G modem/router to another broadband router?

They are alternative ways of getting to the Internet, you have to choose which route you want to pick from the client (computer end).

They are NOT compatible.

This router is compatible with the modem UM175 but from the manufacturer Pantech for the ISP Verizon. The modem for this router is ISP specific modem and will not work with any other ISP.
