Hi Amanda, is your mac connected to internet wirelessly, or with ethernet? It seems like a software problem, or a modem problem, but not a hardware problem with your mac...

Try to reboot both your mac and your modem, and reconnect all cables.

My laptop will not connect to our wireless router at work. It says connected, but no internet access.

The laptop might be connected to your wireless router but is unable to connect to the internet

check if you can ping websites
- click on start > Run > type in "cmd" > in the command prompt type in "ping www.yahoo.com"
- if you get 4 replies the problem might be with your browser.
- if Ping fails try typing "ping 209.191.122.70" which is the IP address for www.yahoo.com
- if ping is successful then the issue is with your DNS server. contact your ISP to get alternate DNS
- if Ping fails try pinging the default gateway or modem IP (you can find the default gateway by typing IPCONFIG)
- if ping is successful then there is a problem with your internet provider

Also you should try disabling your firewall and runnning a virus/malware scan

I am unable to browse iternet, it showing massage that cannot connect for an unknown reasons please check your internet setting and change them if needed . currently i am using htc touch diamond (cdma)

Hi,

There could be many reasons for your problem.
1. If you use proxy server, make sure the server and the service are up and running
2. If you use proxy server check the Internet options and look for the correct values in the required fields.
3. If you use wireless router check the connection to the router.
4. If you use router check the network configurations. Many of the routers have internet connection test. So login localy to the router interface and check the connection.
5. If everything above is correct try pinging a website from cmd. Open command prompt Start->Run->cmd. Write the command "ping www.google.com" (without the quotes). If you have ping look for application that blocks the http traffic on port 80. If the result is "Request timed out" try to ping 209.85.148.104. If you cannot ping any site or computer outside your network, then you have to call your provider.

The connection has timed out The server at support.mozilla.com is taking too long to respond. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few ...

Check your internet connection. If it is connected, then try ping on google public dns server. To do that open command prompt (cmd).
then write "ping 8.8.8.8" (without quotes). If reply times out then there might be issue with your proxy settings. To correct that, if you are using windows 10 then search "Internet options", then select Connections and in that open LAN settings. Then remove tick on Proxy server. (If it is ticked). If problem persists, then I suggest you update firefox.

I cant connect to internet it always says cant find server. how do i know if my settings are on right?

Hi. Please checkfirst if you are connected to your router or to the modem by initiating ping command. Go to start menu then click run. Type cmd then press enter. You will see a black box then type in ping yahoo.com then press enter. You should be getting a reply from yahoo if you have internet connection. If there is no reply then i suggest you check all physical connection. There might be a loose connection there.

All the best!

Cant access internet through wireless network.

How do you know your notebook is connected to your wifi AP? Did you try pinging the gateway? If not, open your command window & type "ping 192.168.0.1" (put in your own gateway address.) If you get replies, then ping something outside of your network: "ping 4.2.2.2" (this is a verizon dns server). If you get replies, then "ping yahoo.com". If it does not fail at any of the above steps, you don't have a connectivity problem. If you fail any of the above, then report back & we'll continue the troubleshooting.

Well i have a dell latitude d600 and i can get the wifi connection on my computer but cant connect to the internet whats going on

if u know the IP address of your router and ur servicve provider's server IP then ping it....
go to Start/Run
in the next window type this
ping 198.168.1.1 -t (the number is the IP address of ur router...replace the number written by me with ur router number)
ping 59.179.243.70 -t (the number here is the IP address of internet service provider server...replace the number written by me with one for your internet service provider server IP address)

the ping window will be a DOS window with responce from the respective server/router with milli seconds mentioned as responce time....if that comes then ur connection is ok
for further info check with ur internet provider

Connected to Linksys Wireless G ok, laptop rebuilt, now can't connect

I'm a little confused about the status of your network adapter. Can you check to make sure your wireless network adapter(s) (wireless and physical) are set to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and to "Obtian DNS Automatically".

After this can you reconnect to the wireless network? Try the internet. If the internet still doesn't come up flush your temp files, close the browser and retry the internet. If it's still a no see below:

If so, can you try and do some simple "ping" diagnostics?

Open a command prompt:

1. Click on the START MENU and select RUN
2. Type in: cmd
3. Click OK
4. Type in >ping <ip address of wireless router>
Example: >ping 192.168.1.1
5. If your results are 4 "request timed out" then you have not established a wireless link yet. I would try and do a factory reset of the router and start over from scratch. A factory reset can be done by simply holding the "RESET" button on the back of the router for about 20-30 seconds.
6. If your results are 4 replies then you can run the next test.
7. Type in >ping 4.2.2.2
8. 4.2.2.2 = a public DNS server. If you get replies then your are on the internet, but it appears that name resolution is a problem. All this means is that when you try to go to www.google.com the DNS server that you should be contacted to find your way isn't able to tell you what the actual IP address is of www.google.com and so you go nowhere.
9. Provided you're set as a DHCP client (meaning your network adapter is set to "Obtain an IP address and DNS automatically" it means your wireless router (if it's the DHCP server - this is the default configuration) is giving you the wrong information for DNS.
10. I would contact your ISP for the correct DNS servers and make sure they are configured properly on the Router.
11. You can see what DNS servers you are actually getting from the Router if you run the following command from a command line: ipconfig /all

Hope this is helpfull.

Let me know if I can help any more.
