Question about Canon PowerShot S50 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon powershot S50 -- for first time ever it won't download onto my laptop (use Zoom browser). I've taken the camera battery out and put it back in and I've turned the laptop off and on. When I go to download it tells me there are 54 images, but it won't do a "select all" and I have zero images to view.

we can get the pictures from there manually / ourselfs.

follow these steps:

  1. open my computer (you can find it from the desktop or from the start menu)
  2. on the my computer page double click on the camera's storage device, if you don't know which one it is then unplug the camera, take note of what you saw there, when you unplug the camera, press F5 on the my computer screen to refresh the list. the one that disappeared was the camera drive. Plug in the camera back and press f5 ones all the other stuff is out from the way. now you should know which one is the camera drive.
  3. open the camera drive (double click on it to open)
  4. if you don't see your pictures here, then you should see a folder or two maybe more, go over the first folder and see if the pictures are inside, if it has another folder then look inside it and so on, if its a dead end then come back and look into another folder untill you find the pictures.
  5. ones you have found the pictures you can select all of them by first clicking ones on one of them, then hold down ctrl button and press a. all pictures and folders will be selected now you can right click on one of the files and select copy
  6. go to your pictures folder or any place you want to store the pictures (preferably not your desktop since your desktop would then be filled with pictures. Ones you have found a place or made a new folder on your desktop ( to make a new folder on your desktop right click on empty space and select new -> new folder ) open the folder or if you are there already right click and paste.
  7. The pictures will be copied from the camera to the computer.
if you want a good program to view your pictures aside from zoom browser try picasa

ones you have your pictures (all of them on your computer safely) I would suggest to format the camera theres a setting in the setup somewhere for that, it will empty the camera and or its memory card which ever is being used.

after that try using the zoom browser again to download pictures if it still fails but this time only shows 2-4 depends on how many pictures you take after the clearing. the program is not working properly then I would suggest that you remove the program from the computer.

press start -> control panel -> add or remove programs or uninstall programs. find it from the list and uninstall.

use the cd or download the program from canon website again to install it to the computer, hopefully it will work normally now.

Can I get a time date stamp on my power shot s80? if yes, how do I do it. I went through the menu functions with no luck. Thanks, Larry

To the best of my knowledge no Canon models enable putting time and/or date directly onto images.
However, you can do it in Zoom Browser - one of the software programs that comes with the camera.
1. Open an image you want to print out or save with date/time printed .
2. Click on Edit > Insert Text
3. In the drop down window move the cursor (in the form of a cross) to where you want the date/time printed and left click.
4. Click the butoon marked Import Shooting Date/Time - on the right of the window.
The date and time will be printed on the image immediately in a white border the size of which you can adjust.
NB All digital cameras store a great deal of information with the image at the time it is shot. This is known as EXIF data/file and it is the date and time recorded here that will go onto your image i.e. the actual time and date it was taken.

I have a canon powershot A40. I've attached the camera via a USB port to my PC. I am trying to use Zoom Browser EX to import pictures to the PC, but am receiving a message that the camera does not work...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Zoom Browser cannot recognize my Canon Powershot G3

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? Please see the following post, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos:

Canon Powershot S50 -lens extends and then retracts

There is a common problem with the A series Powershots, that the lens assembly jams in the telescoping zoom, or in the digital imaging module, in which the lens assembly has to be replaced. I'm not sure if the S series has these issues. You can check with Canon support to find out.

Canon PowerShot A40

If you have a Vista, it is not compatible. It will not download the Zoom browser. I had to purchase a Memory card reader/writer to download pics on my laptop from my camera and by passing the printer.
