Question about Canon PowerShot Pro1 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Fuses on the Powershot pro1

Does anyone know where the surface mounted fuses are on the Pro 1?  I understand that there are 3.

The service centre will only replace the PCB so this will cost more than the Camera is worth.

Interesting that a blown fuse writes-off the camera, when fuses are there for safety and to protect you valuable assest!

Re: Fuses on the Powershot pro1

You may find the fuses by using a ohm meter or anything that has an ohm meter (a digital one is needed). First turn the ohmeter on the smallest scale possible (100ohm, 20 ohm or whatever your device has). Then short circuit the test pins and check to see what value does the device show. You may see something like 0.04 or 0.08 or similar. That's normal. Now on the pcb look for small sqare or rectangle components near the battery compartment and near the dc in plug (if you have any). A good fuse will show you, when measured, the same value with what you measured before when you short-circuited the test pins). If you are sure that there are 3 of those look carefully on the pcb, they should be similar and at least one of them shouldn't be broken. if you find it and it shows the right value on the ohmeter look for the other 2 and also measure them, if they display different values or nothing at all, they are broken. In most cases a fuse has a small notation near it on the pcb something like F-108 or F-607 or something begining with F. This may help you identify them.

I'm sorry for not being able to provide a more accurate description, however only the camera's service diagram could give a direct answer. This can't be found on the internet as only authorised service centers have it and they aren't in the mood to share it.

How to remove the lens of the Canon PowerShot Pro1 Digital Camera? If it cannot remove, how can I disassembly the front of the camera with the lens? And is there are some pictures and graphics to show

Does not matter how you remove the lens, because once you got it of, you never can get it back on, so your camera can use it. Assembling a camera lens is a very delicate job, and only the slightest miss alignment makes a lens worthless. This kind of repairs should be done in a Canon certified repair centre. But first ask what it will cost, but if it costs more then a new camera, you better start saving for a new camera. The cameras becoming better and better every year, and in the same time they are cheaper and cheaper.

Sorry, but if you really want to try it yourself, because you don't mind what the result will be, please look on the site fixit dot com. The take apart all kinds of electronic equipment. (they don't show how to put it together)

Lens retraction noise in canon powershot pro 1

The lens needs to be dismantled, cleaned and lubricated by a camera specialist, the alternative is a lens that will eventually seize, shutting down the camera.

Hi.. Can you tell me as to what is the maximum CF memory card that can be used with Canon Powershot Pro1

When this model came out a 1GB card was a large capacity card, so Canon's specifications stop there. I talked with a friend who has used a 4GB card in a Pro 1, and it's possible that it may work with capacities even larger than that. But I think you will be able to use a 4GB without problems.

Powershot Pro 1 shutter problem

The whole thing is very complicated. In many of the new technologies, there are mechancal devices with very complicated electronics intigrated with them.

Sometimes you can get different opinions, but until the job is done and proven, it is difficult to know who is really right until everything has been done.

Personaly, If I like the camera, and I cannot find something that good for 250 EU, I would fix it.

Apparantly, the PRO-1 is one of the best small digital cameras that Canon ever made. I personaly own one. I have not taken too many pictures with it. But, when I use it, for the size its performance is impressive.

I ended up buying a small Canon camera that will fit in my shirt pocket to carry around with me. I use the Pro-1 for more serious pictures.
