Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a Toshiba Satellite A-105-S4384 which I accidently hit the hibernate mode and can't get it back. I have disconnected the battery and power cord several times, but still cannot get the laptop to come back on. The amber light for the battery flashes 4 times when I put everything back together and hit the on button. Solution? Carl

With it plugged into the wall power, hold down the power button for about 12 seconds, this should wake it..

I also believe on that model sometimes hitting ctrl-alt-del at the same time will clear the issue.

or try holding power button for a few seconds (10) then turn it back on. as a last resort you could try take the battery out, disconnect it from the power adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then place the battery back in and the power adapter and try powering it on?

How to factory reset my Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384

Put Recovery Disk 1 in the CD/DVD drive, then power off your computer, unplug everything from the unit including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, replace the battery and then AC, power on, at the Toshiba logo screen press 'F2' to enter the BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, now at the Toshiba logo screen press 'F12' to enter 'Boot Sequence', with the up and down arrow keys to select 'Optical Disk Drive' or 'DVD/CD Drive', you will then see 'Press any key to boot from CD/DVD drive...' with the dots counting down, press any key before the count down finishes. Assuming you get back to the Toshiba Recovery Utility menu, select the 'factory default' choice, and return your unit to its out-of-the-box state.

Hibernation

This doesn't sound like a hibernation problem, it sounds to be much deep, motherboard deeper, but let's rule out the hibernation. Unplug the laptop, take out the battery, this will completely shut the machine down. Then put every thing back and restart. If it starts, then disable the hibernation mode in the display properties, screen saver tab, under the button that reads power. If it doesn't start, then the problem is with the motherboard or one of it's components. Take it in for a professional diagnostic, they will be able to tell you exactly where the problem is and if it's a replaceable component.
