When you say frozen, what do you mean? Does the os load up? Or does it just stay black and make a beeping sound?

I would guarantee 98% that its your harddrive. I had a similar problem w/ one of my older computers. I installed a new harddrive and that fixed the problem.. Stay away from seagate hds, they are junk.

XP has a problem installing directly from (non cd) usb devices by default. try it with a usb external cdrom and an actual windows cd (known to work) or reinstall ubunt and run windows as a virtual machine or if you are really into computers and really really need to install xp from usb try the link below. (good luck)

Try this - open the laptop up and on the motherboard there should be a small round flat battery (bios/cmos) take this out and leave it out for atleast 20 minutes then put it back in and startup the laptop. Hope it helps, leave me a comment to let me know!

I have the identical problem as chrisdangelo

hello

I have read your problem and the solution to your problem may be following.
  • The BIOS setting may have changed. You can reset the BIOS settings.
  • The hard disk type may have changed..look for SATA and ATA.
  • Or your window got corrupt.Reset the BIOS setting and reinstall the windows using boot able CD.
  • if nothing work out then may be your hard disk connector is loose or your hard disk is gone.
thank you

How do i reset a eee pc 901

To reset my 901 XP, I remove the battery as shown on page 3-3 of the instruction manual.
The reset button can now be accessed: it is a small shiny metal
plate, about 3mm by 15 mm located on the left of the battery compartment (closest to the LAN port).
Press the metal plate once with a ballpoint.

Eee PC 1000H/XP - my wireless connection stopped functioning

1) Try to check your connections. Follow the guide from Microsoft, here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314067

2) You could try reseting your TCP/IP stack. Try this:

  1. To open a command prompt, click Start and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box and then press ENTER: cmd
  2. At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txtNote If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
When you run the reset command, it rewrites two registry keys that are used by TCP/IP. This has the same result as removing and reinstalling the protocol. The reset command rewrites the following two registry keys: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters\

Remove the battery for a couple of minutes while the unit is not plugged into the a/c adaptor. Reinstall the battery, plug the unit into the a/c adaptor, and see if it will boot up.

Frozen Laptop

Can you use the keyboard? If you can then the mouse software is damaged. If you cannot use the keyboard then boot to safe mode. If safe mode is frozen then the problem is hardware.
