Check your electrode might be a crack on the pocelain and shorting out some where else instead of at the pilot area

Is the ignitor sparking when it clicks?  If no spark then bad ignitor.  Is gas flowing to pilot?  If no gas then clogged line or bad pilot gas valve.

I have a similar problem... JMorganti said: "Is the ignitor sparking when it clicks? " How do you know if the ignitor is sparking? I can definitely hear the clicking that I expect when trying to start it, but I can't visually confirm that there is a spark. Is there something more I should be checking?

Note: sometimes my clicking ends prematurely, especially when we have wet weather. Not sure if that's helpful, but thought I'd add it...

Thanks in advance,

Pilot lights but main burner doesn't come on. Just replaced the pilot safety switch but still didn't start.

does the induced draft motor come on and does the pressure switch close? have you checked the roll out safeties?

Heater check out list for heater failures

Almost all furnaces built after 1978 have intermittant type pilots.
Ca banned them requiring electronic spark or hot surface ignitors, followed by induced draft motors, pressure switches or centrifigal switches that "prove" a induced draft exists, allowing the pilot sequence to commence.
electronic spark type units have a high voltage low amperage spark that is AC. Fire rectifies electricity that passes through it meaning AC becomes DC ! Fire is a terrible conducter however as a result , the DC signal is only milliamps/volts signal strength. the DC prescence is proof a flame exists for pilot, and safe to commence to mainburners.

As long as pressure switches stay closed, safeties and limits stay closed
and the DC signal to the ignition module is not broken, the furnace will run.

The normal sequence of operation is upon a call for heat from the thermostat a 24 volt signal is sent to W white (heat circuit) at the low voltage terminal board on furnace.
from there depending on unit and age the heat circuit may include a circuit board, but it still has the typical limits and safetys reqired for operation
its just not using electromechanical relays to control fan and induced draft motor etc.

for the induced draft to begin ,all limits, safetys in heat circuit must be closed.

induced draft begins and a proving switch, either pressure or centrifigal close allowung the pilot to begin, a spark or hot surface ignitor is energized and a pilot flame established, modern types use flame rectification to prove a flame, older Carrier, Payne, types have a 3 wire switch in the piloyt assembly that is a bi metal that expands and contracts clicking open and shut, allowing pilot or main burners, depending if cold or hot.

pressure switches are attached with tubing to the induced draft wheel housing and sense pressure differential and close upon induced draft running, the orifices that the tube attaches to on induced draft housing often plugs or is restricted causing pressure switch to fail to close, or waver on open and close , open , close, .

if you can run the fan in the on postion , you have both high and low voltage to the furnace.

if you dont have fan control check power, breaker , fuses.

Burner on Bryant 90 PLUS won't turn on and it only blows cold air. I usually can see blue flame in the inspection window when the furnace was functioning properly. Is there a switch that I can reset to...

This system will not have a pilot light, instead it will have an electronic ignition or hot surface ignitor. The problem can be a number of things. You can check to see the operation of the unit by having someone turn the thermostat on while you are at the unit and go from there. The order of operation will be:
Inducer draft motor starts (small motor in heat compartment), after the motor runs and pulls the pressure switch in, telling the furnace that its safe, it then starts the ignitor. This will either sound like a clicking noise until the pilot lights or there will be a orange glow by the burners, after a few seconds, the gas valve calls and the burners should ignite.
By doing this, you can get more information to what the problem actually is. If your unit fails to start the inducer draft motor, fails to call for ignitor, fails to call at gas valve, fails to stay on after ignition. Your system should have a control board with LED trouble lights also. If you can see blinking lights, count the number of times they blink, then look for a trouble code chart, usually on the back of a panel. Hope this helps!

Janitrol GUPS075-3 Furnace burners will not stay lit

The first thing I would do is make sure the flame sensor is clean, this is a metal rod immersed in the burner flame on the opposite side of the igniter. If too much oxidation builds up on it, it will not allow the burner to stay lit. To clean, just turn off furnace and remove flame sensor and clean with steel wool and then reinstall. If this does not solve the problem there may be a problem with the gas valve.

Model a36-15 - heat should be on but as the unit goes on and off sometimes the air blowing is warm and sometimes not which then takes numerous on/off to reset

This furnace has an induced draft motor and a pressure switch that has a tube that atttaches to the induced draft housing where it can sense the pressure or vacuum of the inducer motors running, thus proving to the system a induced draft exists with a purge period followed by a trial period for ignition, (either spark or hot surface ignitor) if the pilot is established another type of flame sensing device peoves a pikot flame exists allowing the main burners to run.

the pressure switch , its tubing and the orifices the tube attaches to piug with carbon or collet moisture if the tubes routed with a dip where condensate c an build and eventually block the ability of the presssure switch to sense the indicers operating, it can fail to close or waver open and closed back and forth as yours may be.

On heating the unit go to a three cycle try on the burner then shot down. The blower will come on but the burn will not. Replaced the flame sensor but stayed the same

Does your unit have a induced draft motor? if so is it coming on when thermostat is calling for heat. If not I would replace it. Next I would check spark or hot surface ignitors. If induced draft motor is working but ignitors are not then replace them. If you get to this point and you don't get pilot or main burner I would replace the control board. As a last resort I would change gas valve. I hope this helps you and god luck. Thanks

I have a bryant 90 i and when it calls for heat the inducer doesnt even come on

The first thing I would do is to verify that you have power to furnace. Check breakers and there may be a swith with a fuse in it mounted to side of your furnace or close by check fuse. You can use volt meter or test light to check for power. After you're sure you have power and thermostat is calling for heat if draft motor does not start you need to replace it. Draft motor is the first step in furnace start up.It should run for 30-45 seconds.then spark igniter or hot surface igniter should light pilot. It should stay on for about 20 seconds then burner should light. After burner lights the main blower should come on in about 2 mins. If you can get draft motor to run then procede to next step. Hope this helps you. Thanks

Hello, I have an achiever 90 plus ruud, when I turn it on the flame ignites but after 3 seconds it goes out, it does this 3 times than turns off. Help?

Are you saying that main burner is coming on or pilot /hot surface ignitor or spark ignitor ? If your induced draft motor is coming on then a few seconds later your main burner is coming on for 3 seconds and then shutting off but blower motor is not coming on I would look at flame sensor to make sure it is telling the fan motor to come on. Normally they will try three or four times and then lock out. One easy way to check blower motor is to set your thermostat to fan on. Fan motor should come on and run till you shut it off.hope this help you.

Have a Goodman GPG13 single package gas-electric heating and cooling unit. Turned on the heat and the outside unit ran a short time then shut off. Smelled gas after it shut off. Is this an igniter...

There is a induced draft motor that will run first to purge the combustion chamber and induce a draft, a pressure switch closes proving an induced draft exists, thus allowing the spark and pilot gas, or hot surface ignitir and gas to pilot rsil and /or burners, a trial period for ignition about 30 seconds each for 3 attempts will be made and if not lit by the 3rd attempt it locks out, requiring a reset of power to unit to reset the module or circuit board etc. 1st see what motors running, is it the flue exhaust motor/induced draft??

Janitrol/Goodman GMP075-3 Draft Inducer Fan Won't come on

most forced draft fans are powered by 120 volts . close to the fan is usually a plug that unsnaps. create a call for heat after turning off to clear safetys and see if your getting 120 to fan on initial call for heat. if you are then fan draft motor is bad, usually sold as an entire assembly replace exact as it came out. sequence of operation is..... stat calls for heat via common and white wire to furnace , 24 volts. ......board sences call and sends 120 volts to forced draft ........ motor runs and creates pressure on proofing switch,....... switch closes 24 to board and tells it draft fan is on......... board then energizes ignitor,....... after ignitior glows gas valve is opened and burner lights ........ either ignitor or seperate sensor rod tells board the burner lit........ and a few minutes later the fan comes on and hot air is blown out. if a step is missed or doesn't proof the furnace either trys up to three times to light or locks out. turning off power usually resets safetys and it will resume attempts to lite normally.
