Question about Carrier 38BRC036 Air Conditioner

Outside unit won't run

Last winter a Repairman came to my home and replaced the control board on my carrier home unit with model 325878 751 board. He took the manuals and is now out of business. It is now hot and the outside unit does not come on when the unit tries to cool the house. Obviously forgot to hook up a wire. My question is which one and where.

I need some more info on this problem.

If you turn the system to cool does the outdoor unit come on while the indoor doesn't.

    Or is the Thermostat blank.

If the inside unit is running properly, there will be a yellow wire (or blue) from the thermostat down in the furnace that needs to be hooked up to the Y terminal also there is a red and white wire in the same place in the furnace coming from the outside unit, one goes to the Y terminal also and the other would go to the C terminal in the furnace. Otherwise you may have a bigger problem.

Is the furnace fan (indoor fan ) running. If not the problem is with the inside unit. It supplies the control power to operate the entire system and has a control fuse on the circuit board. If it is running but not the outside unit then the problem is outside.

Look at the old capacitor. The mircofarad rating should be printed on the side. If you can't read it then take the capacitor or the model # with you to a heating and air dealer the sells Carrier products. The repairman should have put one it for you.

Heat comes on when the temperature setting calls for cool.

getting heat in the cooling mode leans toward the reversing valve in the outside unit. it changes the flow of refergerint so that the hot air you get outside in the summer is blown inside in the winter. another possibility is that the reversing valve isn't getting 24v check to see if you have 24v at O and C either at the t-stat, furnace, or the outside unit. if you check at the furnace rember the safty switch for the lower door if that switch is open you will have no power. i would look at the t stat first if you have 24v there go to the outside . 24v present outside will mean a bad valve or board, no 24v means a bad or broken conection in the control wire between the stat and the outside unit(usally the orange wire)

Ge Zoneline heatpump works fine in the summer but in the winter with 45 to 50 degree days the compresser hardly runs. By turning the thremostate you can get it to run for a short period. I have 6 of these...

These Ge Zonelines have and ambiant Temp control on the unit when the temp drops it drops out the compressor and goes to electric heat. This keeps the unit from getting iced up. They do go bad and sometimes they shut off to soon. I just replace them and everything goes back to normal. They are located on the outside part of the unit. Just slide out the unit and it is located I beleive on the right side of unit Rus.

System Malfunction, No communication with outside unit

I work on Carrier Infiity systems. The outside board has a Model plug on it. This tells the system what size unit it is. They do go bad. You can reset your self by turning the power off to the Air Handler. These system have 10 year warranty and if you still have a problem have the replace the outside control board and model plug. Also you can contact Carrier on the their website and get answers. You may need to talk to a service rep in your area. Carrier is good about their Tech support. You should have to pay for a service call if you your problem continues. Sometimes power surges or stoem cause these problems but not often Rusty

Carrier Condensing Unit clicks in HEAT mode / defrost problem

Replace the thermostat on your Heat pump, get the model number and search the net for a distributer. If that doesn't fix it, you'll have to call another serv tech, it could be that your defrost board is acting up.. Let me know for my info also, I'm curious as to what they find. Also, being a Contractor, I don't charge just to come out, I usually diagnose then tell the homeowner. Find a Contractor that will do this for you, if it's simple to fix yourself, he should only charge you partial serv call..

Have you eliminated the possibility of a high or low pressure error. Sounds to me like it's off on safety. Should have troubleshooting the flash right on the panel. Test your pressure switches for continuity.
