C6 substituted for E4OD transmission

1995 ford econoline has 351 Cleveland 5.8 it has an E4OD transmission that has went bad can i substitute a C6 transmission for the E4OD

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

the E4OD- (electronic, 4 speed, overdrive) transmission and the C6- (3 speed automatic) transmission may have the same bell housing pattern, so it may physically bolt up, but the van was setup for the electronic trans, so if you put it in there it will set codes and turn on the check engine light, and the electrical connectors will have nothing to plug into. I would try to find an E4OD and replace it, rather than swapping it. What problem does your E4OD have?

1995 ford f150 truck 302motor what trannsmission did ford install

Hi There,

It should be either a 4R70w or E4OD, check the trans code on the drivers door decal and compare it to this list.

Transmission codes from 1995 Manual M = manual 5 speed overdrive (Mazda?) E = Automatic E40D G = C6 auto U = 4R70W (4spd auto with overdrive) C = manual 5 speed close ratio (Z-F) W = 5 speed H.D. Overdrive Transmission codes start with "TR" then are followed by one of the letters above.

How to tell what transmmison i hav in a 89 f250 with a diesel it is an auto

  • In 1989, Ford went from the C6 transmission to the E4OD. The C6 is a vacuum shift and the E4OD is an electronic shift, 1-2-3-OD.

Will a ford c6 tranny bolt on to a 1995 ford 5.0l or 5.8l motor?

From 1990-1996 The C6 was replaced by the E4OD which was modified to include a fourth forward speed and electronic shift controls, replacing the hydraulic control mechanism of the C6.

The C6 works fine in your bronco.. Your friend will need a different transfer case!. i dont have the manual but this is my best guess. FOrd likes to make cars that have interchangeable parts. Like a 1999focus can interchange with 2007. as long as the liter and engine size are the same. In some cases. you will have to use different transfercase.

So you might be better off with a c6 transfer case or c4 for your friend.

Hope this helps
