Screen stays black when booting up on Gateway laptop

When I boot up my Gateway laptop, the screen stays black, you can faintly see that it has booted up, but the display is very dark. Sometimes I can reboot and this will clear things up, but other times I have to reboot several times in order to get the display to show. Any solutions? Thanks

Blank screen

Try plugging the laptop into an external monitor to make sure the laptop is booting up properly. If it is unplug the monitor from the laptop; or if you know the laptop boots up fine and you get the windows audio when it boots and the initial starting beeps then forget the monitor. Shine a torch or light source on the screen and if you see a faint picture then the inverter on the screen has developed a fault.

Hi there.
Take the battery out and try to boot on AC power only, if it boots up, turn it back off and reinsert the battery and try to boot again.
If it still suffers from the same symptoms please post back for more advice.

Good luck
