Question about Acer Aspire 5920 Notebook PC
Having sound trouble when connectinmg my new acer laptop to my new phillips 42"lcd tv getting via hdmi getting great picture but no sound anyone help
If you are running windows xp or linus i may not be able to help altought the problem might be solved in almoust the same way. For windows vista right click on the volume icon in the system tray icons and choose playback devices select HDMI output ( for 5920G is "Realtek HDMI Output" ) then press the "Set Default" button. The other way around is to go in the Control Pannel in the "Hardware and sound" cthegory and select sount than seth the default output to Realtek HDMI Output in the "Control Pannel Home" view, or in Classic view click/doubble click on "Sound" icon ( a speaker ) and do the same. In windows XP there is a similar approach. In linux go to System ->> Administration ->> Soundcard Detection and you should find a setting equivalent to the one in Windows

Ok having solved the same problem on my compaq it might work for others as well when connecting to tv thru hdmi picture but no sound.bear with me I am no expert but I had same fault and everyone told me to set hdmi icon in sounds tab to default pretty hard to do when there is no icon there lol first I checked devices manager in control panel went to sounds games ect and checked to see if hdmi was supported mine was thru an intel(r) high definition audio hdmi checked and it said it was working but still no icon went to intel web site and they have a free check you can do on your pc this showed my graphics card needed up dating not the sound card thischeck will automaticaly up date it did this plugged my hdmi cable in and the icon appeared in sound tab set it to default and it worked fine apparently the graphics card has to call for a signal from the sound card in order for hdmi I'm running windows 7 but it works for vista as well hope this helps

Easy fix. Select your digital audio out in sound settings on computer, then hook up HDMI cable to TV and computer. Then restart computer (that is the trick). You should be all set. Good luck
