Question about Dryers

1 Answer

The timer on my dryer does not work.

My dryer turns okay and the light goes on when I open the door. It also turns on okay. It also stops when I open the door. The only problem is the automatic timer does not work.

Thanks for your help. The part I need will cost $101 so now I must decide whether to get one or just to buy a new dryer but I do appreciate the assistance in helping me make this decision.

Sounds like the timer needs to be replaced.

Consumer Reports says that typical life of a dryer is about 14 years.  If yours is much younger than that it might be worth replacing the part.  If it is approaching 14 years then a new dryer might be the correct decision.  Don't forget to take into account energy savings and any rebates you might get from your utility companies.

Maytag Neptune dryer timer won't stop

If the timer is not stopping as it goes around then it's for sure the timer. The timer does pretty much all the work with controlling the dryer. And if it's physically not stopping going around then it has broken.

Whirlpool model LER8648LW0 - the dryer will not stop when door is opened and the interior light does not light. I have changed the bulb on the light but it still does not work. I suspect the problems are...

Hello,

I suspect the problem with your dryer is the door switch as opposed to the timer...its the responsibility of the door switch to stop the dryer when the door is opened as well as turning on the light too when the door is opened.

The part number for the door switch is 3406107 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;
apdepot.com
repairclinic.com
searspartsdirect.com
apwagner.com
partselect.com

This youtube video will show ya how to replace the door switch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWQhuQXa6d0

My Dryer won't stop drying until I open the door.

If it does this in a Timed Dry setting the timer is bad. If it does this in an Auto dry setting it could be a bad moisture sensor or a bad timer.

Dryer was working fine. the next time I went to use it it wouldn't turn on. there is power to it because the light inside goes on when the door is open

look at the timer switch or the door switch,,,both will stop it running
try giving the door a good push to close it if it starts up its a door switch sliped or gone faulty

Timer runs continuously - Does not stop at all

There should be a timer motor on the timer. That is most likely burnt out and will cause the timer to not shut down. Just replace the timer and that will solve the problem

Ge dryer

The door is interlocked to stop the drum from turning and.or causing an injury to anyone opening it.. The timer is the control system that switches the drier and heater on to dry clothes but it does that by energizing a relay /contactor.. You probably have a bad relay or your timer is bad and not de-energizing that relay to stop the cycle... If you provide specific model number of your GE dryer.. that might help in diagnosing your problem...
