I have two similar RCA's in the shop right now for repair. There is
this one which as I wrote is dead. and there is another, a F25441 ,
Ch. CTC203AF9 which only needs the RF connector reattached to the
tuner. The two chassis are somewhat different but it looks like until
the output section the power supplies look the same. So I took several
comparative ohm meter readings around the HV and power supply areas.
There is nothing blatantly different. The good sets supply squeals
when its plugged in but the bad one does not, which seems to suggest a
power supply problem but as I said all measuremens on the same
sections in each set corresspond. I realise of course that none of
this is conclusive but not having a schematic I was hoping to get a
break. Does anyone have any hints on this one or a method to point me
in the right direction? Thanks, Lenny Stein, Barlen Electronics.

This is true, and have you kept info on how often have to do this?
CTC203 win the most for that dreadful glue on that coil because the
fracture is in solder-coil wire bond itself and very tiny, easy to
miss. Coil leg that had bad solder was swimming in that glue, while
other leg is clean. Very interimittent that could drive tech nuts,
glue will break that resoldered leg if they aren't aware of this glue
problem.
I had similar problem in CTC185 the L4401 solder was cracked, that was
only one out of many 185's. I also keep a watch on any RCA chassis
for horizontal driver transformers that sweated all it's wax out, just
replace it because this is a sign that transformer was overheating and
blowing HOT. These things not often.
BTW, ATC113 used exactly same SMPS & horizontal driver circuit but
good of RCA, quit using glue on that coil. Also how often do you see
this in 32" and 36" based CTC203 chassis? None because it has no glue
on that 4uH coil because leads is very stiff. Rest of 27" and smaller
has 6.8uH coil swimming in glue to hold that coil in place because of
wire is so SOFT like cooked spagehetti (YUM!).

I implore all to replace just that HOT and remove that L14401 and
strip glue and reinstall coil.
CTC203's flyback in 19, 20", 25" and 27" is rarely bad, once in awhile
found bad in 32" and 36".
This quote is all is required to repair nearly 95% of this blown up
SMPS. This is what RCA requires for rebuilding blown up CTC203 SMPS
and I add: before powering that repaired SMPS, check everything else
to prevent another "explosion" which is extremely rare outside of
these four parts. Sometimes a fuse also depending on how that Q14101
shorted.
I have been rebuilding these about 40 times and none blew up during
repair. Only time they blew up again was one of repeat where glue
wasn't removed while back. Many times HOT blew that SMPS off because
of that L14401's glue.
Q14101 must be exact replacement, the other two small transistors can
be subbed by exact specs.
BTW, if anybody resolder those L14401 without removing that inductor
coil and clean off glue completely (ditto to unclogging glue from that
solder hole) will have a repeat few months to a year later. Happened
to me twice, now I always strip off that offending glue. We keep the
records of all units on computer, this is how I know their
backgrounds.
Had studied in that CTC203 training manual and this is exactly what I
have done for these high rate success SMPS rebuilds.
Cheers,
Wizard

Thompson chassis use a very similar circuit in the horiz drive area and
experience similar problems. FYI follow the same procedure on all RCA/GE
chassis to lessen the probability of having these bite you.
